Nearly 7 year old night time continence

Hi all. Looking for some.advice please.

As the title says really. My daughter has been referred to a incontinence nurse for night time bed wetting. She's 7 in April and still has a very full pull-up in the morning.

Can anyone advise what to expect from the appointment? We have tried various different things. The usual. Waking her up..no drinks 2 hours before bed. Water not squash. Bathroom trips before bed. Bed wetting alarms etc etc etc. Nothing has helped.

She is an incredibly deep sleeper. But she's also upset at wearing pull ups.

The GP was happy we tried everything he was going to suggest and has referred her to an continence team.

I just wandered what to expect from the appointment? The GP had mentioned some medication for a few months and see if that breaks the cycle and gets the body to adjust. So not sure why we are being referred to hospital. But I understand that is the process.

Can anyone advise as to what to expect or if we should possibly be trying anything else?

Tia.

My DS's situation was different because he also had issues in the day. But I would say take a look at the ERIC website if you haven't already.

The medication didn't work for DS but the alarm did in his case. He was older than your DD though. I assume different things might work for different children.

DS's first appointment was in lockdown so maybe that makes a difference but apart from one time in person, all follow up appts have been by phone, even long after lockdown finished.

Just to reassure that the nurses must deal with this all day long. And although it seems like she is old to be wet overnight, she's actually still quite young and there are many, many children who are the same...even if it doesn't feel like that!

My daughter was 9 before we could stop buying pull ups .

I'm surprised your GP referred a 6 year old - that's well within the bounds of normal. If she isn't producing the hormone that suppresses urine production at night then you just have to wait. If she was 8 then you could have it prescribed, but I honestly wouldn't be remotely concerned at 6. She won't be the only one in her class in pull ups.

omg OP are you me? I could have written this about our DD. Planning to ring the GP soon, so no advice but will follow your experience. One day we’ll be done with the pull-ups (please please please)!

Thank you everyone.

Ah ok. The GP told me they refer from 7. And she's 7 in April. He said there was a wait so he would send the referral through now.... so she will probably be 7 by the time we actually see anyone.

I only went to the GP because she was getting upset about it really. I wasn't too worried. But just wandered what they might suggest doing as I didn't want to cause her more stress if it isn't necessary if you see what I mean.

My 4 year old DD nearly 5 is still wet at night too. But mu my 2 older boys aged 9 and 10 now where both dry by 3.5 so this was all a bit strange for me!

We are going away for a month in August so was hoping we might crack it before then as there will be a lot of car naps! But obviously it's OK if it's not. We will work with it.

But obviously being older and bigger you can imagine how full the pull ups are. Between the 2 of them we fill a lot of the wheels bin with them and we only get collections every 2 weeks. It's not a huge issue but I'm just waffling now.

I wasn't too worried but she wakes up upset that she wasn't dry, that's the motivational factor.
