Nursery - Consecutive days or spaced out?

Hi
posting on here hoping more people will see.
I’m looking for some thoughts on this please regarding nursery. My little one will be attending nursery 2 days a week from September - she will be 11 months. I’m working 3 days a week but grandma is kindly having her one day.
I’ve spoken to various people about whether it’s better to have days together or spaced out and have had mixed feedback - my sister says my nephew wouldn’t have coped going 2 days in a row but a friend of mine said their child preferred it.
I’m a bit stuck what to do - I’m hoping to go back 3 days a week - probably Weds,Thurs and Fri.

thanks xx

It may depend on what your nursery can offer but I'd do consecutive days as I think it would be less confusing for them and quicker to settle. If it's a nursery that offers activities on set days then you could also check that and choose accordingly (though she may be a bit young for that yet).

What can your nursery offer? And what does grandma want? That's the consideration I would base a decision on. Beyond that, what days are more convenient for you to drop off at nursery vs. grandma, for example, if you need to be in early for a meeting every Wednesday?

Most children who go to nursery go consecutive days. It's very normal. Obviously, most people work consecutive days. So she will be absolutely fine with whatever you decide.

Thank you both. Grandma would rather avoid Mondays or Fridays, I can work from home one day a week so the plan was for grandma to have dd at my house on that day so I can see her at lunchtime.

Nursery are pretty flexible what day but have advised I need to tell them this week what I’ve decided.
I think I may have to work Friday’s due to staffing capacity so am thinking of sending her to nursery on Thursdays and Fridays with grandma having her on a Wednesday x

I thought grandma didn’t want a Friday? So nursery Thursday Friday and grandma Wednesday would surely be better?

Conkerqueen · 20/02/2024 16:13

You should do Tuesday Wednesday Thursday so that you avoid bank holidays!

In an ideal world I’d love this but I really think work will want me in on a Friday :(

We did 2 days at that age, Tuesday and Thursday. Now she does Tuesday Wednesday Thursday, to avoid bank holidays and so she has long weekends.

At 11 months old I think its easier for the baby to adjust 2 days in a row as they having no understanding and I think having gaps is more unsettling

Thank you that’s a valid point. My nephew did struggle settling in but he was 3 when he started nursery.

Have gaps. If they get ill then they will only miss one day of nursery instead of two hopefully!

Curlysusie · 20/02/2024 17:04

I think consecutive works better, in an ideal world I would go for weds Thurs at nursery and grandma Friday as Friday are most likely as AL days or going away for long weekend. Be good to not miss nursery when you've paid for it
