Muscles twitching driving me mad

On and off for a few months.

For a while it was my eyes, both would twitch randomly during the day.

Now it’s my thigh, bum and lower back - I get a random pulse/spasm that lasts up to an hour or so.

Occasionally it’s my hand/thumb.

It’s driving me mad - it’s painless but uncomfortable. The only way to relieve it is to take pressure off whatever muscle it is - so I can’t sit down without it happening. It’s usually only on one side but switches sides.

I’m on anti depressants but can’t see anywhere on the side effects that refers to this!

Is there any way of stopping it? I don’t want to see GP if avoidable.

I get this. For me it's caused by stress and anxiety. The more I focus on it the worse it gets. If I manage to ignore it for a while it disappears.

Magnesium glycinate also helps.

I get this in my left arm at night, it's awful. I tried magnesium supplements but they didn't work well so I switched to a magnesium spray from Holland & Barrett. That did the trick

Thank you - I’m getting myself in a panic that it might be MND to be honest, I’m at slightly higher risk I think due to one of my parents having a very closely related condition - she gets muscle spasms but they’re a bit different, her whole body jerks. I get that sometimes but usually more when I’m relaxed or falling asleep.

I’ll look into magnesium, I had my levels of that checked ages ago but maybe worth getting it checked again.

Check your iron as it may be a reason. You have my sympathy. Its horrible when you have a parent with these conditions and then Every twitch in our body (which could be for no reason) drives us into a complete healthy anxiety. My mum has MS and I wish I never knew about it.

I went through a phase of this with perimenopause.

One of my parents had MND. Can you see muscle fasiculations on the inside of your arm? They are usually quite obvious, also check if you can still raise yourself up on your tip toes.

It usually starts on one side of the body in a limb. Hand or foot will have signs.

Otherwise, maybe a vitamin deficiency. Check your iron levels as low iron can cause internal tremors.
