Hairdresser mishap

Had highlights done last week, they were clearly ginger and brassy when she was drying me off, but cowardly me agreed with her when she said the colour was nice. I’m not one for conflict - mental health is too shabby. She did put purple toner on, clearly it didn’t help at the time.

I’ve used purple shampoo every day since and it’s not touched it. I’ve still got ginger roots and quite light blonde rest of my hair.

Aside from living with it and having them redone in 6 weeks, is there anything else I can try at home to remedy this? No ‘go back to the salon’ please, I just can’t cope with that at the moment.

Thanks.

Sounds like she hasn't left the bleach on long enough for the hair to lift to a lighter shade. Short of re bleaching which I wouldn't attempt at home, I don't think you can do much. Maybe try a semi permanent hair colour on the highlights rather than just a toning shampoo?

You should’ve just told her you didn’t like it. That’s not conflict, just being honest. It would’ve been much easier (and cheaper) to fix while you were still in the salon rather than now

I’m prone to orange roots compared to the rest of my hair and I use redken shades eq toner just on my roots…. Have a look on YouTube on how to mix, how to choose colour and how to do a root smudge. Works well for me. Good luck.

Or you could just call the hairdresser and tell her the toner has washed out quickly for some reason and could she redo it? Make it sound like it’s not her fault, just a strange quirk?

Purple shampoo neutralises yellow tones because it is its opposite colour on the colour wheel.

To tone down the orange you need a blue toner or shampoo.
