Play date advice

Hi,
My DS would like to arrange a play date with two of his school friends. The issue is I have one of the mums numbers and have met her a few times but the other I don’t know and never bump into on the school run.

The kids are too young for phones etc and can’t arrange themselves, so would it be weird if I gave my DS a slip of paper with my number on it to his friend so (if she’s willing ofcourse) we can arrange something?

He is my first child so still learning 🤣

school gate?

Text the other mum and ask her if she has it?

isnt there a class WhatsApp?

Xiaoxiong · 19/02/2024 16:11

I'd get it off the class whatsapp. If you don't know which parent belongs to the kid you can search the kid's name, otherwise you can put a message on there saying "Hi this is minihardboiledegg's mum, is parent of Schoolfriend on here?"

school gate?

Tried to see her at the school gate, we must do the school runs on different days from each other as I’ve never seen her. I work most of the week.

I could do that actually. Hadn’t considered that, I’ll try that.
There has been no WhatsApp chat this year unfortunately.

(And by search the kid's name, this would be if she had ever put something on there like "if anyone sees Schoolfriend's jumper please can you let me know" and then you'll be able to connect the name and the parent and DM them.)

I'm old and this is how we used to do it before mobile phones OP 😁

I can't see a problem.

The school class changes pupils around each year so I can’t even check last years as his friend was in the other class.

A slip of paper is fine, I've done it recently.

wontforget · 19/02/2024 16:14

how old are the boys

If young…. i’d give the teacher my name and number with a little note and ask her to give it to the mum in question

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 19/02/2024 16:14

Just be warned sometimes playdates are better 1 on 1. I have found when there is 3 someone can get left out.

coxesorangepippin · 19/02/2024 16:20

Yeah that's the usual procedure

Oneofthesurvivors · 19/02/2024 16:35

Not all schools have class whatsapps

my son at 7… would forget to give the note or lose it

i’d write v brief note inc name and number and ask teacher to hand to parent

onlyconnect · 19/02/2024 16:46

I've given my son a note to go to another parent before and he's managed it fine. He's generally very forgetful but if there's a play date at stake that seems to focus his mind.
