Osteoporosis

Hi
I have been offered an annual infusion of Zolendronic acid to treat my recent diagnosis of osteoporosis.Alendronic acid tablets that you take once a week did not suit me.
I would not have known that I had the condition unless I had requested a bone scan…I am concerned about the possible side effects of the infusion.Once it’s in it’s in…Does anyone have experience of being on Zolendronic acid infusion?Would really appreciate feedback.

Hi, I've had 5 Zoledronic acid infusions (1 more to go). Mine is due to having had breast cancer. I do have osteopenia.
Anyway, from my own experience and speaking to others, the first infusion tends to be the worst. I felt fluey and achey the day after. I had about an hour where I felt really naseous. I was pleased I didn't have plans as I just wanted to stay on the sofa. I was fine the next day and have had no side effects after the 2nd to 5th infusions.
The infusion only takes 15 minutes. They will put a flush through before and afterwards. I go to the chemo unit for mine and am usually in and out within an hour (dependent on catching up with the chemo nurses).

My sister in law has moved to infusion after not liking the tablets .
She has no problems . She tends to have a lot of health problems and would definitely have reported any issues with the infusion.
But everyone is different .

@Granna , apologies coming to the thread after all this time. I've got my first infusion in a couple of weeks following a year of evenity injections. I'm interested, did you have the infusion and how did you get on with it? I'm very nervous about it!

I too was nervous about the infusion.
it was totally painless and I had no side effects at all.
I will now have one annually.
If I fall I am far less likely to break a bone.
Just had a hip replacement which has been a huge success too
