Would you? Walk in dark along sea front

I'm very near the sea on holiday. The kids and DH in arw in bed and the is sea within walking distance, I can hear it. Would you go down there? To see it, walk along it now or should I stay home? I really want to but unsure

I don't think you should do that. You don't know the area, you don't know where you're going and you won't be able to find your way back if you get lost. The chances of you tripping over something if it's pitch black are really high. Why not just sit outside the tent or caravan?

aitchteeaitch · 17/02/2024 22:59

Hell no.

Especially not if the sea is rough, a rogue wave could take you in an instant, and you would be gone. People die like that every year.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 17/02/2024 23:00

Yes I would. One of my most treasured memories of my younger years is of sitting on the sea wall in the dark the night before I went away for a few months, listening to and smelling the sea.

ThePoshUns · 17/02/2024 23:04

Definitely

GrazingSheep · 17/02/2024 23:05

I do this regularly in Brittany and Connemara but I know both places really well. I’m not sure I’d do it somewhere I’m not familiar with.

Yes definitely. Stick to the walkway thing rather than beach itself. No one's going to murder you.

ElsaMars · 17/02/2024 23:08

Tanking it down but I went anyway. Noisy and dark, shit myself scared on way back with keys in hand. Do not recommend.

Yes and have done not sure why it would be any more unsafe than any other time

EmmaEmerald · 17/02/2024 23:11

Sorry you didn't enjoy it

i'd have gone too though!

Gettingbysomehow · 17/02/2024 23:15

That very much depends. Where I used to live in Seaford, yes no problem. Down in Hastings, Newhaven or Peacehaven definitely no, I'd be murdered.

Glittering1 · 17/02/2024 23:19

No

PoliteTurtle · 17/02/2024 23:20

If you’re anywhere outside of Cornwall, I wouldn’t test your luck 😅

Sherrystrull · 17/02/2024 23:21

No. I wouldn't feel safe. It's very sad really.

Its quite sad that I had to ask this and that a lot of you were unsure, cannot blame you of course.

I ended up wearing DHs thick coat and checked behind me about every 5 steps on the way there and back. I walked down to the raging beach, couldn't see as much as I would have hoped so briefly considered sitting for a bit but it was very dark and a little scary so I scarpered back. DH and children none the wiser, so there is that 😄

Yes. Nothing would make me happier. I'm stuck in the Midlands away from my beloved South Coast. Wouldn't get too close though.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Frangipanyoul8r · 18/02/2024 00:36

A clear night with a lot of moonlight and a place you know well is very different to shit weather in the dark in a place you don’t know.

spanishviola · 18/02/2024 00:38

I would have gone. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it.

SkiingIsHeaven · 18/02/2024 00:40

I have with my dogs but I was really wary and didn't feel comfortable at all. Not sure I'd do it again
