How can I improvise a giant needle?

MNers patented ingenuity required please? Or failing that, I'll settle for entirely impractical but entertaining suggestions because I'm bored.

I've got a woven jute runner which is frayed at the end. I've cut off the irredeemable bits and now want to roughly hem the edges with some jute twine which I have already, just as a temporary fix until I get a replacement.

What household object can I use as an improvised needle large enough to take some garden twine?

Children’s sewing kits (Homebase, The Works) often have a very large plastic needle with a blunt point. Would that do? Would an ordinary large darning needle do? Or how about one of those long metal threaders for threading elastic?

A piece of wire like a floristry wire. A hairpin that’s been flattened out?

You need a small crochet hook. You push the hook through, hook the garden twine and pull it back through the hole you just made.

I have a small crochet hook! I almost learned how to crochet several years ago! Now where the fuck did I put it?

Hairpin is a very good shout, I have some left over from DD's ballet days.

A skewer. It has an eye and everything.

A safety pin, catch the twine in the pin, close the pin, then use the head of the pin to push through the matting.

Can you tape the reverse side or some PVA ? That should help to give you more time until you find the right think to "sew" with.

Bobby pin did the job in the end. Thanks all, I knew I could rely on you.
