Someone claiming to have been in prison

Is there a way to find out if someone has served time for a fraud?

Have Googled full name, rough dates and specific location, can’t find anything. Rather than a cover up I’m suspecting that this person has made this up to sound cool.

Most people unless it was known would keep that one to themselves. Being banged up is definitely not the epitomey of cool.

He probably has been to prison. I can't see why he would lie about that but it is not as rare as you would think

I know someone who was in prison for fraud. If you met her you would be shocked as she is a polite, well spoken woman. I don't think there is any way of finding out this information unless maybe it made the news but most crimes aren't reported in the media.

It doesn't sound cool at all though, I'd run a mile

If you know some details - or can guess closely - try here:
https://www.judiciary.uk/judgments/

and here:
https://caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

I'd say he has been inside, though. Maybe not for fraud? (The fraud could be lying about his record!)

asdunno · 17/02/2024 07:01

Why would someone make this up? Are they 14?

Northernsouloldies · 17/02/2024 07:10

I've known people that have been jailed mainly drug offences, I knew what they were away for because to a certain degree I moved in those circles but it was not something that came up in general conversation.

This is a great rabbit hole
