Weighted blankets

DD has asked for a weighted blanket for her 12th birthday. No SEN needs, just would like one. Hit me with suggestions on best brands/shops to get one. Bonus points if it comes in yellow.

As an aside would you recommend one for me. Perimenopausal, poor sleep with bad osteoarthritis in 1 hip and both knees.

I have a single sized blanket from ikea and it's amazing. Sleep like a log.

I've got a single bed sized and a half sized for the living room. They're awesome for when you're feeling poorly.

Carefully check out what weight would be good for a 12yo. I bought one for DD from Argos and it's too heavy for everyone apart from DH. Theoretically is should be fine for me, but I find it too heavy.

I'm so glad that's not a portmanteau...

I love my weighted blanket, can’t sleep with out it now. I got mine from kuddly, only comes in blue or grey sadly no yellow.

If it helps at all, the recommendation is that you should get one that weighs no more than ten percent of the user's bodyweight.

Has she tried them out? I think she need to try them, before you spend the money. They are not for everybody, and some people cant cope with them at all

DS has one which is branded Hartann Ltd which is good quality, but it was a gift so am not sure where bought.

I really don't think I would recommend one for you. I am post menopausal and have slept under DS's on occasion and it feels uncomfortably heavy and hot and almost suffocating at times.

A relative with osteoarthritis found that, as it progressed, she needed very light bedclothes in order to be comfortable. She had to abandon the vintage woollen blankets that she'd always loved for an ultra lightweight duvet.
