HELP!! soundproofing ceiling from loud neighbours

Hello, I can hear every single thing my neighbours do above me, I live in council housing, is there anything or any products I can use to reduce the noise coming in through my ceiling. It’s driving me insane

Unfortunately not. They are the ones that would need the soundproofing. Do they have wooden flooring by any chance? If so you could check if it is allowed under your lease.

You have my deepest sympathy.
We lived in our flat for 20 years with a large family above us. The flat was sold and the next people installed wooden flooring. They aren't even noisy people. They don't play loud music or anything like that. It is the footsteps and vibration from everyday living that is a constant disturbance. I have to go out when the cleaner comes round, as the sound of the metal vacuum scraping across the floor is dreadful.I tried all sorts of things to try and mask the noise but was still woken every night. My health was destroyed by the constantly interrupted sleep. I now have to sleep with the radio on all night to block them out but never go into a deep sleep.

At least you have the recourse to complain to the council if it gets too bad. Good luck.

@msbevvy no they carpeted floors, I can hear their footsteps too and the vacuum. As I type this I can hear word for word the film they are watching on tv.
how did you cope for 20 years 😭

You could buy a universal remote and turn their volume down through the ceiling😂or just pop some very cushioned slippers at their door as a present.

I got sound proofing in a downstairs flat but it was £1000 a good few years ago. It made a massive difference.

@ollypollymolly Did they have to rip out your ceiling and how long did it take them to do, I’ll do absolutely anything to stop the noise

@Daisy556 they didn’t, they have lots of different options now, if you get them round for a quote they can tell you what they think will work best.

it’s all about now much noise you reduce versus how much space you lose. We had acoustic board and green wool stuck on the walls here and iT’s a massive difference, lose about an inch and half of room
