Things to do in London

Hi, me and my partner are going to London on Sunday morning and coming back on Monday afternoon.
just wondering what ideas others have for things we can do/see? Last time we took our young children so we did things centred around them but now it’s just us two we have more options. The only thing I don’t want to do is watch a show.
TIA

Take a boat from Westminster Pier down the river to Greenwich. Visit the markets and the Maritime Museum and the Observatory.
lots of museums - British Museum, V n A, Natural History, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Tate Modern, Tate Britain.
Book a table to eat at Brasserie Zedel on Piccadilly Circus.
Book a slot at the Sky Garden for a drink and the view.
Churchill War Rooms on Whitehall.
Go to the Moonwalk experience at the Lightroom in Kings Cross.
The London Eye.
Walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.
The Wallace Collection (behind Selfridges).
Book afternoon tea in a big hotel or at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The Lanesborough has live music with tea at the weekend.
Covent Garden or Camden Town Market.
Borough market for the food stalls.
These are some of the things we do with our visitors.

On our last visit dh and I enjoyed dinner at Meghans on the highstreet, a wander round Kyoto garden in Holland Park. There is a bar that over looks St Paul’s which is supposed to be lovely and the views stunning.

Start at St Paul's, cross the millennium bridge, turn left if you fancy wandering down to Borough Market (you'll pass Shakespeare's Globe) Or turn right. There's the Tate Modern which is free. On the 10th floor (I think) is a viewing platform.
Continue along the south bank to Waterloo Bridge. Cross the Thames here. It has, imo, the best view from any of the London Bridges.
Wander up through various streets towards Covent Garden.

Thank you. Our hotel is right next to Holland Park

If you are in town for a relatively short time, I would suggest getting the hop-on/hop-off bus tour.

AnnaMagnani · 16/02/2024 21:45

If you are going to be in Holland Park and just for a short time I would stick to suggestions in Kensington.

Last time we were in London, we got tickets for The Shard coupled with a river cruise. We enjoyed both, weather was glorious that day so the views were amazing.

We went to Spitalfields Market, lots of variety of shops/stalls, great indoor "street" food with communal tables, don't bother with the "proper" sit-down restaurants (we tried a few and walked out of them all, they haven't got their act together for service). Some interesting sculpture around the outside.

We've always enjoyed Covent Garden, getting something to eat/drink and watching the buskers.

Londontown.com often has useful information on date specific events.

We've done lots of walking tours of London, just turned up and paid in the past, not sure if they operate differently now. We particularly enjoyed Legal & Illegal London, Jack the Ripper, Oscar Wilde's London, Shakespeare's London.

I know you don't want a show but you might enjoy the cinemas at Leicester Square.
