Curious if anyone has any experience with using grounding mats to sleep on/have under their desks.

Just bumping this - the line is they are supposed to help with immune system, help sleep, reduce inflammation…very curious to hear if anyone has tried them!

sounds like utter bunkum

hudpat · 16/02/2024 09:29

No. And I won't be trying one either. Utter nonsense.

TheSlantedOwl · 16/02/2024 09:32

😂

Yeah, I hear you!

What, this sort of thing?
You’d need to have bare skin on it wouldn’t you, for a start.

Noel Edmonds, is that you?

nevertrustanyoneagain · 16/02/2024 09:45

How does that ground you lol. Just go outside and walk on the grass barefoot 😆

Er no! Why would you have to be plugged into something to ground you?

Femaleismysex · 26/02/2024 21:24

Its appearing on my feed. Im curious, if anyone has experience of it.
i don’t understand either how would it work, is it like an electric blanket?

OP you are in the wrong place if you want to learn the facts about grounding. Try this site, which is run by a physicist who is electrically sensitive and has had to make certain adaptations in his environment: https://www.beneficialenvironments.co.uk/.

The point about grounding mats is that certain items that we use - computers, smart phones etc - give off strong electric, electromagnetic and radiofrequency fields which our bodies are not well adapted to deal with. The body is an electrical system so of course electrical fields will affect it. It's helpful to ground the electrical fields around us, when we are not in touch with the ground with our bare feet, which is usually.

There's a growing body of studies on the effects of exposure to electric, electromagnetic and radiofrequency fields and the effects of grounding. As one example, a study on cellphone radiation by the US National Toxicology Program (https://www.niehs.nih.gov/sites/default/files/NTPcellphonefactsheetjan2024508.pdf) show it induces cancer.

This is just one example. Computers and smartphones and some electrical systems give off strong fields of all the above mentioned types and some of us have to use adaptations to lessen our exposure to the fields, or we get headaches, brain fog, palpitations and other issues. The fields "before" and "after" the adaptation can be measured with an inexpensive meter called the TriField, so you can quickly see if any given intervention actually makes a measurable difference. Note: the TriField and other meters are professional quality tools and don't respond to the placebo effect.

There's more about grounding mats here: https://www.healthline.com/health/under-review-grounding-mats#does-it-matter
Personally I use grounding mats for my computer and the chair I sit in, as well as the seats of our electric car as the electromagnetic fields are very high. They were very inexpensive. I did try a grounding sheet to sleep on but, while these seem to suit some people well, it made my symptoms worse so I will sell it on.

Some companies, where the employees use computers all day, require their workers to wear grounding wristbands, which are connected to the earth via any plug socket. This has been the case for decades so anyone who doesn't "believe" in grounding is far behind the times.

I hope you find the info you are looking for.

Bumping this to ask. It sounded like balls to me but I looked into it and there are actually quite a few studies demonstrating an impact of grounding. I bought a small bed mat but so far the only impact has been a bad headache and total exhaustion - I am really struggling to wake up.

I might move it to under my desk, or is this to be expected ? I am only 4 days in.

Anyone?

does your bed mat go under the bed legs/base or under your bottom sheet on top of the mattress? I ask because I have a number of grounding mats that work measurably well and improve my well being but I tried a grounding bed sheet that goes just under the bottom sheet and the effects were horrible, as you describe.

DrNo007 · 02/12/2024 11:21

The grounding mats I find useful go on my work chair and under my computer.

On top of the sheet.
I don't seem to be getting headaches any more :)

MrTwatchester · 02/12/2024 14:23

My sister swears by these. I think they're probably cobblers, but I get grounded all the time by the dodgy wiring in my house, so I'm getting the benefit either way.

Ooh are you saying the headache issue was temporary and now you are feeling fine with the grounding thing? If yes I will give mine another go. I only tried it two nights.

LadySad · 02/12/2024 18:15

Yes, headache was just the first couple of nights.
Which makes me think it must be doing something...!
