Pod coffee machine

Am completely confused about the coffee machine to buy so I can use the coffee pods sold in the local supermarket! All of them, no matter the brand, say, suitable only for Nespresso Original machine. What is this? I see dolce gusto, vertuo...not original? I just want to be able to make a espressos which I can then add to hot milk to make a latte. Don't want the latte pods as I like fresh milk.

Also, can I make say a 2 shot equivalent espresso shot with these pods?

Thank you!

Yes I believe you can. I use "Tassimo" and buy a range of Tassimo pods, some XL so I get a large americano and I add milk. They do espresso pods too that make a smaller drink so yes I could heat milk separately and add to make a latte. I don't like their latte drinks as I can taste the UHT although admittedly haven't tried them in years so they might be nicer.

I looked into getting one of these machines before Christmas and learned these pods are so bad for the environment, there's the potential for aluminium to leach into your drinks, and the refillable pods are apparently really badly designed and dangerous, too. Why not get a cafetière and some Fairtrade loose coffee instead? It'll be a lot cheaper.

If you're in the UK, the compatible machine brand is literally printed on side of the Pod Box.

It will say "Dulce Gusto" or "Nespresso".

I have a Tassimo and recycle the pods via Tassimo podback scheme.
i buy my pods from Kaffekapslen and they are reasonably priced They sell pods for other machines too. About a week for delivery.

To use the Nespresso compatible pods from the supermarket look at the L'or machine. Very pleased with mine, they do some great offers including pods from time to time but the machine is much cheaper and there's no subscription needed. Check offers on Amazon,Argos and the L'Or website

I’ve recently bought this and I love it: https://www.lorespresso.com/en_gb/l-or-barista-sublime-bundle-satin-blanc-100-caps-pre-packed

There is a huge variety of pods available, all the ones in supermarkets which are compatible with nespresso original work in this machine and I have a separate milk frother for milky coffees. I’ve had a tassimo, dolce gusto and a nespresso vertuo machine in the past and in my opinion this is the best machine I’ve had. There is a recycling scheme for the aluminium pods as well.

Or an Aeropress. It will be useful for travelling anyway once you are addicted to real coffee.

The lovely coffee company Grind are one of those that make compostable Nespresso-compatible 'original' shaped pods. Decent selection of blends, including decaf, and really nice to deal with. Mine get sent in the post automatically on subscription.

These take Nespresso compatible pods. Bought as a gift to myself last year. As a previous commenter, I have had dolche gusto, tassimoa and also a ninja coffee bar.

I love the L'Or, and have got rid of the others.

They had milk warmer/frothers in Aldi this week but you can buy them in Asda too for around £20 too..again much cheaper than the Nespresso version
