There’s a law coming in to stop people from coaxing cats

Did you know this? My local NextDoor is full of people posting pictures of random cats on walls to ask if they are lost and to say they look sad.

Usually someone comes along to say they should take it in and they’ll come over with a chip scanner.

There’s now a law to ban coaxing cats. Anyone told the cats?

Even if planned legislation outlaws the luring of a pet from its home, it may have its own ideas. Mine did, says Esther Walker

Quite right. Little bastards. And if they break the law the cats will be trialled at cat court, put into cat prison and required to do a rehabilitation programme before being released.

It's ridiculous, it's a bit like having a pet squirrel and getting upset because it prefers the nuts on your neighbours tree. You only have to take one look at the TV adverts for cat food, it's verging on weridly sexual, baby baby feeed meee look into my eyes and I might love you, a leeeetle beeeet, it's bonkers. They just do what they want. If you think otherwise you're up for life of disappointment as well as cat hair all over your jumper. Although there was a study that showed toxoplasmosis transferred from cats to their slaves owners, sends them a bit cuckoo and renders them deluded. So that would explain it.

Got to be honest, I don’t know how this would be enforced. Unless there is someone who routinely grabs cats off walls.

Excellent use of police time. No really.

Had this 3 weeks ago, little cat turned up, no collar, so I posted on relevant SM and Next Door, no-one came forward. Had her scanned, no chip. She's only very young, but has moved herself in! We're quite a tight knit crescent, people are always posting leaflets through or knocking on to see if we've seen their lost pets. So she's here now. Even our old boy Bob has resigned himself to the fact he now has a housemate! My back door is always open, so if she had chosen or chooses to go home at some point, there's nothing to stop her. But she doesn't! I'd rather she had a good home here with us, than take her chances out there.
I don't know how they'll police people deliberately enticing cats though. Cats don't seem to be high on any priority list, even if they're run over, it doesn't need to be reported. Which is sad.
