Our local hospital has just been rated as needs improvement the maternity has also been rated as needs improvement. I’m due to give birth there this year and not feeling great about the way it’s run. I have looked at every hospital close to me and they all need improvement one even had inadequate for maternity. I can afford to pay for private would be in a big London hospital with nhs attached incase anything was going to go wrong. I live just over an hour away. I’m just worried about giving birth with inadequate care. My midwife hasn’t messaged me back for 3 weeks was told I needed an early emergency scan but had to wait 2 days etc.

Heard greatttt things about C&W.

However I looked into guys & st thomas and it was def my fave option and i was very close to going for it.

however my local hospital had a fairly good rep and i knew i wanted elcs / consultant led so ended up going nhs. My surgical team were utterly amazing both times - truly flawless and i had totally textbook recoveries, i also need NICU care for one child and was grateful to have it readily available and be nearby for that. Another reason iike guys...

Unless it's an early planned section I wouldn't want to be an hour away from the hospital, NHS or private. I'd have given birth to DC1 in the car if I did.
A lot of complications can arise within an hour.

I wouldn’t hesitate OP. I wish I had gone private, if I had my baby would be alive. NHS maternity services are often not fit for purpose.

I have given birth twice at the Kensington Wing and C and W, and I’d highly recommend it for the reasons already stated. I live 2 hours away and was anxious about making it in time so was able to chose a scheduled induction date of my choosing.

Its in an NHS hospital and there is a new state of the art baby unit in the department next door (there is a connecting door from the wing).

It’s about £20k.
