Two days post c section

Is it normal to be getting random gushes of blood ? My blood loss had started to slow a little but then I've filled a pad fairly quickly tonight, sorry to be graphic but I could feel it rushing out of me. Changed pad and it seems to have slowed a little now so I'm going to keep an eye.
Just a little worried I've done some more internal damage as earlier on I stumbled in the kitchen, didn't fall luckily but obviously my body tensed up trying to prevent falling, since then my scar site is alot more tender especially on the one side.

From the incision or vaginally?

I remember basically having a period post c section, I think it's called lochia

Sorry vaginally, yes it's normal lochia but it seems like it's got heavier since I stumbled earlier

I basically had a period too - yes called lochia . I think it can be reasonably heavy but provided not having to change pads something like hourly and no very large clots id probably wait it out. If bleeding escalating then call 111. Or if you’re uncertain you could probably call labour ward.

Thank you. Yeah just checked and it's a decent amount of blood but this one hasn't soaked, so that's something. Just in so much pain especially on the one side. In hindsight I may have done too much the last couple of days, and that stumble didn't help earlier !

Oh also, I've got shooty bum pains! You know like fanny daggers, but in your arse instead?!

Bless you. The first few days are hard- you have to try and take it easy if possible but this is obviously hard with a newborn baby.
I don’t remember any bum pains though… did they discharge you with painkillers? Make sure you keep on top of those rather than waiting for pain to build up. You’ll notice pain if you introduce too much of a gap.

coxesorangepippin · 15/02/2024 03:04

Hmm, I'd keep an eye on that pain on that one side for sure.

Definitely take it easier than you think you should, press a cushion against your lower tummy when getting up.

It's so hard recovering whilst looking after a newborn too!

coxesorangepippin · 15/02/2024 03:05

I don't remember bum daggers either tbh

CurbsideProphet · 15/02/2024 03:59

The bum daggers are trapped wind. I can't remember why it's common after c section. If you've got any worries about bleeding or pain then call the midwife team you're currently under.

FacingTheWall · 15/02/2024 04:30

Yes, the ‘gushes’ are normal, and will happen more often if you overdo it. You’ve got a huge ‘wound’ inside you from the placenta that is trying to heal as well as the incisions. I remember the midwives not being concerned unless you had clots bigger than the palm of your hand.

The pain in the wound from falling sounds unrelated. Take it easy, two days post section I was still in hospital doing nothing!!

redteapot · 15/02/2024 05:52

The midwife said to me that it was normal to get heavier bleeding when you're up and about more - but do check with them if you're concerned at all.
Congratulations on your new baby!

violetcuriosity · 15/02/2024 07:08

I know it's easy to say but you have just had a huge operation and you need to rest. Have you got a partner? If so for the next 3 days you basically just need to feed the baby in bed and not do much else. I found it hard too but I'm glad I did it. My friend overdid it and got a bad infection x

sectionquestion · 15/02/2024 18:37

The bleeding slowed so it was only that initial pad, was worried when it started gushing out after that stumble, I still have that pain (obviously it's all painful) but the left hand side pain is still there and it's bloody awful !! Convinced an internal stitch has come undone - is there anyway of knowing that's happened ??

It's amazing how much the ibuprofen, paracetamol and Oramorph take the pain away, so then you forget actually I can't do this or that because the pain is still there you just can't feel it !!

Yeah my dh has been amazing, doing everything and I feel useless ! I really don't know how single mums do this ?? Like if you had nobody at all how would you manage !

I remember the bum daggers!! I had them on and off for weeks after and pain on each side near each hip bone.

If you get any large blood clots or your filling a pad after an hour I would call the hospital.

SweatpantPotato · 15/02/2024 19:32

Go ahead and call your midwife, it will make you feel better and it's very common. Good to keep an eye on these things.
