Tips for my first Villa holiday

We have booked the most stunning villa in Cala'dor. It will be myself, DH and 3 kids age 3-10 and DHs elderly parents for 2 weeks.

We are really bloody excited but have never done a Villa holiday before so would love any of your hints and tips to help make it more seamless !!

We are basically right next to the centre so i know we are next to supermarkets and restaurants etc and we will eat out alot but during the day and some nights we will do BBQs etc.

Heres the villa if anyone is interested

it was called Villa Can Sega and was five minute drive to the edge of Sant Antoni.

it had five bedrooms and four bathrooms so is good for los of people and generations with ground floor bedrooms.

It was around £7k for two weeks in July for everyone.

If you have a washing machine in the villa get all your washing done and dried before you come home, you’ve paid for the electricity there so you might as well use it! Also such a relief to get home and only have to put clothes away or iron them.

Get mosquito plug-ins, one per room. There's a Lidl up the road in Santanyí that has an own-brand one for €2 and it even has a little night light built in. They also sell fresh milk and Heinz baked beans, but not "proper" tea bags. Otherwise the nearest "proper" supermarket (the Spar-type places are more water-and-sunscreen convenience stores) is Eroski by the roundabout at the north of the town, about 800m from your villa.

Do take the walk over to Portopetro, which is an unspoiled fishing town with some nice restaurants overlooking the harbour.

We’ve also had a “water watcher” lanyard on pool parties just in the backyard when a few families are together. Basically if you’re wearing the lanyard, your eyes are on the pool. Ensures people tag out when they want to move away.

This is a very good idea!

This isn't a what to bring tip, but when you're there, put water bottles half-filled in the freezer overnight. Fill fully in the morning and your water will stay cool most of the day.

I second what others have said - dishwasher tabs, laundry tabs or liquid, teabags, Marmite.

I hope you all have a really wonderful holiday!

yes this was the plan and im really excited about it lol, coming home fro a hotel with absolutely mountains of washing is soul destroying sometimes so im very excited (yes im sad) to be able to have everything clean for coming home.

DHs parents are lovely, but its almost like adding 2 extra children so really we wouldn't ever be relying on them for pool watch.

Myself and DH are very on the ball having holidayed alot with our kids and when we were both young (pre kids) we watched a horrific mix up happen with a large family on holiday whereby mum thought her mum had the child and vice versa, the toddler wandered over to the edge of the pool and fell in. thankfully they noticed just as she went in and dad sprinted and jumped in and she was pulled out really quickly but the mums screams were honestly awful and its always stayed with us.

In this villa they have a small kind off outdoor kitchen with a fridge etc so my plan is i the morning fill the pool fridge with snacks and lunch/drinks so there really is minimal need for us to go into the house and it means we are solely focused on the kids during the day x
