So how are your imaginary friends doing these days?

About half a century since I last gave these guys any thought.... but my imaginary twins ( I had 5) have all been subsumed into me in different ways - the shy one has grown up, the loud one has expressed herself quite freely in recent decades, the crafty one had a good run, but never really got off the ground, the sporty one was a late bloomer....

And I had so many imaginary animals when I was a child, mostly otters. I think they were expressing my maternal instincts, which eventually went on fostering children and animals.

Also, I had an imaginary daughter ( when I was about 6) she used to go out scouring dustbins for me, and bringing home anything useful, like lengths of string etc - well I always blamed her, anyway - I think she might still be at work in my house...

And there was an imaginary pixie. He used to ride on my shoulder and whisper choices into my ear. I think I maybe still hear him sometimes! 😂

Anybody else remember when all children had imaginary friends? Does not seem to be much of a thing for today's generation!

I had an imaginary Alsatian (now known as a GSD) for a couple of years, when I was about 9 or 10. I used to walk miles holding his imaginary lead. One day, he didn’t exist any more. I’ve never thought about him again until reading this thread!

My imaginary friend was a pony called
Cherry blossom so I expect she's still munching apples under the apple tree.

I've got an imaginary lover who hugs me inside a protective bubble to keep me safe in the hard, cold world. Sadly, he's still just in my imagination.

Mine was in Borstal (juvenile detention centre) by the time we parted. He had a very tough childhood, as an orphan who lived in the local park-keeper's house with his granny who always burned the cakes. He was terrifying to others but protected me nicely from bullies. We understood each other. I hope he didn't go off the rails and end up in prison. He was a lovely boy underneath.
