Do I bin this cod?

Quick question, made homemade fish fingers for my son yesterday, was a right faff with the egg and the bread crumbs etc, and then popped them straight into the freezer to have at a later date. Hubby got home and said the place absolutely stuck like a fish market, and it was only until I went out and came back again I could really smell it. Does raw cod usually smell that bad? It was from Asda and in date, but only just (had one more day before use by). I don't want to make my kids ill, although it's a lot of fish fingers to throw out ☹️

To be honest, fish always smells even when fresh but I'd go with your gut instinct if it doesn't feel right chuck them out. I've done this in the past and it does seem a shame to throw away something but I'd rather that than make someone ill.

Thanks. I think I will have to go with my gut and bin them. Such a pity as I said, took ages to make them and so messy !!!

They will be fine. Any kitchen will smell of fish when you have been preparing fish. Rotten fish does not smell like fish. It smells revolting.

COD has quite a strong smell, imo, stronger than haddock, etc. Fish that is off smells REALLY bad.
