House mould & PIV system, does it help?

We are having big issues in our house with mould. Not walls covered stuff because we treat quickly but relentlessly comes back on the cold edges. Windows are covered with condensation on cold days. 1980’s build with extension and we run dehumidifier, dry windows daily, air with windows open and treat mould quickly, but it’s relentless. I’m asthmatic and mould is a huge trigger for me.

We are looking at a PIV system and wondered if anyone’s installed one and if it helped?

We have one but we generally keep it off on the winter months cos it freezes the house!
If you get one it needs to have a heater.

Find out where all the water is coming from and stop it.

Unless you are doing crazy things you should not be generating so much living humidity that a dehumidifier can't deal with it.

Unless you have bought a really low budget one.

The extra humidity must be coming from somewhere.

Edit : How many litres of water does you dehumidifer remove in a day ?

I can’t work out how it’s so damp. DH put in a humidistat fan in the bathroom but it doesn’t work very well in my opinion.

Kitchen the extractor fan is very old and pretty rubbish.

Dehumidifier wasn’t massively expensive- not sure how many litres it does I’ll try and check

We have a PIV and it's better but not completely solved the problem. We still need to empty a dehumidifier once or twice a week in this damp early spring weather. It used to be emptied every day.

Maybe your cavities are blocked from shoddy building forming cold spots and condensation, don't dry clothes indoors unless you have a decent dehumidifier in the same room, keep your windows shut when it's damp, are your gutters clean are you double glazed - and on and on
