Has anyone used Thriva?

Want to have some bloods taken re hormonal issues - not sure if they’re in my head or real. Would like to get in to see a doctor at some point but it could be handy to already have some kind of clue as to what I’m dealing with (if anything!).
So, has anyone used Thriva before and found out anything useful? Or if 10 people respond and they all found out exactly the same thing, (ie low x, seek advice from your gp!) then it’s possibly just a waste of time anyway.
In case anyone thinks this is some kind of sneaky advertising it’s not! I just typed hormonal blood tests into google and this one came up, before I pressed the trigger I wondered if it’s got any real customers 😂

I love it! But I have a condition where I need to keep on top of my test results and check them regularly (more often than the GP would.) it’s not a replacement for a GP per se, but it would allow you to investigate issues which your GP might not be keen on and keep on top of your own health (rather than, say, waiting for an issue to arise and then having it treated.) GP won’t routinely test for pre diabetes or cholesterol, for instance- but lots of people have these issues and aren’t aware.

Yes, if there’s an issue, you get a GP report and it says ‘see your GP to decide on a treatment.’

Okay well that’s a good review tbh, think I’ll go for it. It’s not loads of money so not the end of the world if I don’t find the results useful and I think I may well end up seeing a GP regardless at some point but I’m curious.

How often are you getting it @Pupsandturtles and why won’t your gp test you if your condition requires it? If I’m being nosey don’t feel like you have to answer!

My GP will test me every 3 months, but as I’m TTC I want to be more on top of my test results. I don’t want to waste 3 months with my meds at the wrong levels…

make sure you follow the instructions- if you squeeze your finger, the tests don’t work which is really annoying! You have to really heat up your hand (warm water) to get the bloodflow going!

I use them, I get an annual iron and vit d check. So much easier than attempting my gp surgery.
The website is set up to be quite pushy to try and get you on there subscription based service but no complaints other than that.

TheChosenTwo · 12/02/2024 23:53

Fair enough @Pupsandturtles i can see why it’s worth it for you to do them more regularly. And good to know about the no squeezing, I wonder how/why that impacts the test but I’ll be heating my hand up!

And thanks @SomeCatFromJapan - I’m not interested in any subscription service so I’ll give that a swerve.

Just off to order now….

If you squeeze too hard you can burst the red blood cells in the blood which renders the sample unusable.

TheChosenTwo · 13/02/2024 00:16

How much blood does it actually need? A drop or two?

OP posts:
Pupsandturtles · 14/02/2024 09:10

It depends on the tests you choose but it’s at least a small vial, looks like 1ml or so to me. If you heat up your hand first for 5-10 mins, the blood flow should be sufficient (if it’s not, you might have to prick your fingers a few times!)

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2024 15:15

It arrived today, was very impressed with the speed!
Now it’s a bit of a quandary as to when to do it. I have PCOS so maybe one period or so a year, it’s currently been threatening to start for about 3 days but not really an actual period yet. It advises to test on day 3 of your period. Maybe I’ll just do it today.

If it does look like it might arrive it might be worth waiting a bit as that'll get it spot on per the instructions.

The little vial should have a marker so when you drip the blood into it you'll see when you've added enough. I find I get good results pricking the side of my left ring finger (actually I get DH to do it).

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2024 15:26

Actually you need to do it when fasted anyway so I’ll give it a few more days!

I know from another friend with PCOS that testing women’s hormones with PCOS can be really tricky (for exactly the reason you say)- might be worth calling them to ask?

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2024 15:50

Everything seems to be really tricky surrounding PCOS, no one seems to know anything which is possibly why I’m in such a bloody mess in the first place 😭
Maybe I will call them; I’m just feeling so fed up!
But thank you for the advice, it’s probably worth it now having spent £100 on the thing it’s best that I give it as best a shot as I can.

Reach out to them and ask I’ve used them for blood tests including the female hormones one because I also have pcos! The people I’ve asked questions too on their chat have always been helpful

ihatethecold · 14/02/2024 16:22

Are the tests accurate? I would be interested in testing my iron and Vit D

Yes perfectly accurate as best as I can tell. They give you the actual levels in the result and mine have always been roughly as expected.

Pupsandturtles · 15/02/2024 20:34

Yes defo call them, if they say the test doesn’t work well with PCOS, then they should refund you.
