Have moved house, and the gas range cooker in the kitchen in this house has been poorly cleaned and there are layers of burnt on crud around the gas rings. Normal kitchen cleaner or cif is not shifting it. It's a stainless steel hob so am trying not to scratch it.
What can I use to shift the gunk please?

Have you tried neat bleach and just leaving it to stand for a whlie?
A paste made of washing powder and water if that doesn’t shift it.

White vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray generously all over and leave. Sprinkle bicarb soda if your feeling fancy. Then go in with regular washing up liquid and sponge to scrub away.
Anything can be cleaned with white vinegar, bicarb and washing up liquid.

Can you try a glass scraper?

Sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda and spray with water
Let it fizz and soak

A paste of bicarbonate of soda and bleach left for several hours, then wiped off, has worked for us in the past.

ETA not sure if bleach would whiten the surface, though. I used it on kitchen wall tiles.

Ok great, I have bicarb and white vinegar, so I shall try with these. Thanks

Boil up a pan of water and bio washing liquid, let it boil over to cover the top. Leave to stand overnight and it will clean with wiping.
