My DS (17) is in Year 12 and has a casual job. He was talking to one of his school friends about it, and the friend (also 17) said he isn't allowed by his parents to get a part-time job because it would push their household income over a threshold for losing benefits. Is it really the case that under-18's casual wages are included in household income calculations while they're still in full time education? If so, I guess I'm a bit taken aback that they would be discouraged from getting valuable work experience.
