Can’t decide if I’m a city girl, a country girl, or a coastal girl?

I love the city. I love the country. I love thee coast.

Life is short but you can’t live in all three at the same time. How do you know which you’d be happiest in?

I could equally see myself living in an ultra modern flat in zone 1 of london as I could living the quiet life on a farm in devon or in cornwall in a captain’s house.

Following as I feel the same way as someone who has lived in th city for too long!

Cardiff?

Spending a week in rural Wales was enough to confirm that I'm city. I have lived coastal which was fine when kids were young but too parochial now.
I live in London Zone 3 - leafy, nice neighbourhood, good/excellent primaries (my kid are late teens though). But I'd love to live in a small house in Zone 2 within two minute walk of café, shops and tube. Can't afford it.

youth: in the city for the party
early middle age, still in the city with a second home on the coast.
late middle age: the coast
retirement: country but on edge of suburbs to be close to health care as you age.

mathanxiety · 10/02/2024 22:39

Belfast might fit the bill.

You’re the reason I can’t afford a house in my home town

I don't know the answer but I'm exactly the same as you! I live in central London. I'd love to live by the sea, I'd equally love to live somewhere wildly remote, I'd equally love to stay where I am. If only I could afford multiple homes I'd happily roam around between a few.

No one should have a second home.

I'm assuming you're a woman not a girl, so probably d) none of the above. Unless you're actually 10 years old in which case fair enough question.

Thank you. Reminds me of a horrible CV where someone is trying to demonstrate their “versatility”.

I've never really thought about where I live in this way. It's been more about where my job, family and friends are.

RunSlowTalkFast · 11/02/2024 08:33

I think you can try and get the best of all worlds. I live on the edge of a medium-sized coastal town less than 5 minutes walk from beach, woods and fields. There's a small city about 20 minutes away with all the high street shops, pubs, restaurants, theatre, pretty old town area. Plus I'm only 90 minutes from London and there are sometimes cheap train tickets so it's really easy to spend the day there.

You can. Edinburgh. Surrounded by beaches and countryside, woods and hills.

No, that would be the Tories. Introducing right to buy and then absolutely no investment in social housing since the 1980s l whilst encouraging people to see their house as an investment rather than a home just because they want more homeowners as they are more likely to vote Tory.

TreesWelliesKnees · 11/02/2024 08:48

Bournemouth is a good option for having all three. Not technically a city I dont think but a busy and vibrant town, fabulous beaches, and the New Forest close by. Lots of sunshine too. I don't live there but I visit family.

I live in the city but have an old campervan so I can get a dose of sea and countryside.
