Bank account for teen to use overseas

DD is 14 and is lucky enough to be going overseas a fair bit this year.

She doesn’t have a bank account and I’m after recommendations, I’d like her to have a debit card that she can easily use overseas.

HSBC any good? I don’t bank with them but they do play on their international credentials which made me think they might fit the bill.

Revolut - you can exchange money in the correct currency and have pockets for food or entertainment etc -

You can use any bank account overseas. Just use your debit card as normal.

One DC opened a Starling account for overseas, the other a Monzo. I have a Revolut. We found the high street banks were pretty penal for under 18s abroad.

We also set up a Hyperjar account with card for DC that we could top in an emergency. They were in Korea (the WSJ last summer) and both Starling & Hyperjar worked.

Starling is good. No fees for overseas transactions and you can have different pots of money linked to different cards (and can had a proper card and up to five other virtual cards you can use on your phone). So it makes it easier for them to budget and 'cordon off' money and also makes it safe if they lose their card as the card will only have that 'pot' of money associated to it. Also it is easy to shift money between pots.
It is a really flexible and easy to use account.
And pays internet in the balance monthly.
