Not a birthday party - take a gift?

We've been invited to a little party hosted by the mum of one of DS's nursery friends. There'll be 6 children there and she is putting in games and food. It's not a birthday party, more of an excuse for a get together now that the children have started making attachments at nursery.

Would it be nice to take a small gift to say thank you? For the mum or the child? And what kind of things could I take? I don't know her well really.

Give mum a bottle of wine and pray she opens it?

No. Some flowers for the mum arranging it all would be nice. Could just be a few bunches of daffs.

I would give a bottle of wine or nice chocs to the mum and a small gift for the child, like a magazine or bubbles.

I think a bottle of wine would be nice and you can get a pack of nice crayons or a coloring calendar for the kid, maybe?

No presents, you set a precedence and it will just escalate. It‘s a play date with parents, not a party.

I hosted and went to these things when the children were too young to be left alone and I normally brought some biscuits or other snacks to share.
A small bunch of daffodils maybe.

I would just take some “grown up” cake or biscuits to share with the adults.
