Does this sound like a normal virus? Dd is ill without any concrete symptoms.

She is 17.
She feels tired, achy, weak and lethargic. Perked up at one point and had a piece of dry toast. Now back to mostly sleeping, feeling like death, skin rash, hot and cold. But it's not a stomach bug. And it's not a cold or a cough. What sort of bug is it? She did throw up once in the past 24 hours but not much. Feels nauseous. Needs support to walk to the bathroom. Sipping water and dozing, Feeling horrendous.

I'm feeling a bit anxious. Please reassure me if that sounds like a normal virus to you.

What's the rash like? Have you done the glass test to see if it fades when you press it?

To be honest you sound worried so I'd be looking for medical advice.

Mushroomwithaview · 10/02/2024 08:39

Yes I've done the glass test. The rash is like a heat rash and it does disappear under the glass.

I think I'm worried because she seemed to be getting better and now she's suddenly much worse.

I'd call 111 for advice just to be sure. There's so many awful bugs and viruses going round at the moment.
Hope she improves soon

EdelweissPirate · 10/02/2024 08:45

I think if you're worried it's always best to get her checked. Hopefully 'just' one of the bugs that are going around, but better to make sure.

hamsterswhiskers · 10/02/2024 08:48

Defo call 111 as previously advised. Hope she's ok OP. There are some pretty nasty viruses about atm.

BooksAndHooks · 10/02/2024 08:48

Flu type A went around our family recently. All were really unwell for over a week.

KinKenKon · 10/02/2024 08:54

Mother's instinct. If you're worried call 111 and talk through her symptoms with a health professional.

I hope she feels better soon

HaroldsCougar · 10/02/2024 08:58

Yes, ring 111

Also, if you have any to hand, do a covid test (rash has become a commoner covid symptom since about autumn last year).

You can also get flu LFTs now, but I don't think flu produces a rash (it doesn't seem to affect as many body systems as covid)

DocOck · 10/02/2024 09:01

To be honest, I had covid before Christmas and it was very much like that. I had no cough or cold symptoms and didn't think that's what it would be but I was tested at the doctors and it was confirmed.

heldinadream · 10/02/2024 09:04

My wee granddaughter - had her MMR but not yet reached the second dose - has come down with measles and the symptoms sound similar OP. Including the nausea and throwing up.
Just a possibility. Hope she's better soon.

Goawaytina · 10/02/2024 09:07

Sounds like Flu type A

dancinginthewind · 10/02/2024 09:13

Is it measles?

Mushroomwithaview · 10/02/2024 09:17

Shouldn't be measles, as she's fully vaccinated.
She just had Covid (2nd time) in November. Surely not again already?!
I'm not in UK but we have a similar healthline phone service here. You're right. I'll call.

Sounds like my last bout of Covid a few months ago

hamsterswhiskers · 11/02/2024 23:52

How's your daughter OP. Were 111 helpful?

LemonySippet · 11/02/2024 23:55

Glandular fever/mono? I felt like death warmed up for months when I was a teen and had it. Hope she's okay OP.

ChubbyChinook · 12/02/2024 00:00

As with all vaccines, fully vaccinated doesn't mean you won't get measles. It means you will hopefully be protected from severe complications. There is currently a measles outbreak due to low vaccination uptake. Definitely phone 111 for advice. Hope she feels much better very soon.

ChubbyChinook · 12/02/2024 00:01

Oh I've just seen your update, you're not in the U.K, ignore about the measles outbreak here in the U.K as not relevant.
