Can I organise a Spotify account for relative in hospital?

I've had a look online but it doesn't mention this .
Is it just a case of entering his phone number when signing up?

I dont know about the implications of being in hospital but I sign into my Spotify account with my email address, I'm not sure it even knows what my phone number is

You can sign up and just tell him what the password is with your email address

So I get an account and give him my log in details ?
I want it to be as simple as possible n for him and also not sure about giving him access to someone else's account as he might view this as dodgy ( he's very anxious ) and not used it .

It doesn't even have to be your (or his) email address - you could sign up for a new email address and then use it to sign up for Spotify and give him the login & password. There is currently a three month free trial of Spotify premium available if you Google (hopefully he doesn't need to be in hospital that long). If you cancel the subscription by returning to the free version before the end of the free period, you won't pay at all.

Spotify remembers payment cards that have been used for free trials so you won't be able to use the card again for a free trial. However, if you have a card provider that allows you to create 'virtual or disposable' cards these can be very useful. I use revolut (and with this trick I've had Spotify premium for years without actually paying)

That's what I would do or if he's worried say you'll set it up on his phone for him and he won't know what you've typed in, that's assuming you are local and visiting

inappropriateportioncontrol · 10/02/2024 07:56

My aim is to achieve simplicity and ease off use for him .
I'm not local . He's going to be in hospital for weeks . He's in his 70s and not terribly tech proficient but does use a smart phone ( I phone I think so no doubt that's going to add another layer of difficulty ).
I was thinking he could just have an app icon on his phone that he could use to access music and audio books ,I don't want him to have to keep logging in and using passwords . His fingers aren't very nimble and he's really not well .

Perhaps I should add that I'm also in my 70s , not terribly tech proficient and have zero experience of Spotify.

Once he has logged in once he can click the remember me button and he will stay logged in. I have never been asked to log in again on my phone. I just click the icon on my screen and I have my podcasts and music right there.

Changingplace · 10/02/2024 07:59

On his phone, go to App Store and download the Spotify app to his phone and create an account, once the account is created select remember me and then when he just clicks on the app no need to log in each time.

As someone else said there’s a free trial available at the moment so do that and cancel it before the three months is up.

Give it a go and pop back here if you need help :) feel free to PM me if you get stuck x

The free trial sounds great .
It's not going to be possible to download it onto his phone remotely is it ?
His partner is visiting but I'm keen not to add to her stress .

Having an app on your phone is exactly how it works, it's a one time log in and after that you just open it up.

When I suggested you set it up for home I didn't realise you weren't aware of that

littlegrebe · 10/02/2024 08:05

It shouldn't log him out once you've logged him in - mine never does and I've got no idea what my password even is any more.

No you’ll need to download it on his phone when you’re physically there. Another idea you could download BBC Sounds too and he can listen to radio and podcasts free on that too.
