Was you ever in the audience at top of the pops?

Just watching on bbc4 and was wondering if any mumsnetters have been in the audience. They all look so enthusiastic and happy. Also so refreshing to see no phones and people just enjoying themselves and being carefree. Miss those days so bad 🤦🏻‍♀️ sounding like my parents now but times were so much better then.

It did look very staged. Did you ever get chance to engage with the singers?

Briefly, when they came off-stage. Somewhere (where?), I’ve got an autograph book bursting with 80s goodness.

@todayshappening no, I wasn't, though I did see Bros play at my local 14-18 disco when they were promoting their first single.

By the way, it's "Were you ..." rather than "Was you ..." if you don't want people to cringe at your grammar.

By the way, people who correct grammar are cunts

Yes I was and I saw the DJ, not Jimmy Savile, molesting a girl from the audience. the cameramen were aware of it.

My sister was - back in the early 80's she said it was fun but there was a lot of quite handsy men to be avoided

I went to TOTP in the mid 90s and won a pile of CDs for being 'best dancer'. A friend of the family, who worked at the BBC in Elstree had got me in for my birthday. I saw Gary Barlow and met Ash, who were really nice and some Dutch one hit wonder who pranced around a a bright yellow suit. If you stop and freeze Gary Barlow's performance at the right nano second you can see me in the audience 😁

Like others have said the audience was quite small and they herded you across the floor and squished you up to make it look packed. It was a fun day off of school. My mum was very liberal and thought it was sort of educational.
