What happens at a hotel kids club?

Do you leave your kid there for an hour or two, or do you stay with them and do activities.

We haven't been abroad as a family before. The child in question is four.

I'm looking forward to spending time together as a family, but equally DS is full on and I have fantasies about taking a nap or reading a couple of chapters of a book undisturbed one day.

It might vary but all the Tui ones we've used you leave them there.
It's great, they get to meet friends and have a few hours out of the sun and you get a couple of hours to yourself!

It depends on the hotel and their age. We also use TUI kids clubs and you leave them for a blissful 2 hours, although by the time you register them and leave it’s more like 1h 45 mins. My youngest is obsessed with them.

Normally leave them to it, sign them in and leave your phone number, and collect them in 1.5-2 hours.

The TUI ones that we've been too are generally very good, and very secure. We've been happy to go for an hour's walk off the grounds with them. The hotel ones are a bit more scary, normally at least in the ones I've been, and we've generally sat on the sun loungers with a view of the kids club area, just to assure ourselves that she hasn't escaped.

I didn't mean to write scary, I mean scatty.

Not a fan friend has a near miss where son wandered to the pool and the two leaders/carers didn't notice, pure luck they saw him themselves.

Try get specific recommendations, qualifications yes mean trained but it does vary by each venue the level of care and supervision.

I don't think i could relax leaving my children in one of these clubs, however lots do. It's just not for me.

Once in Cyprus when DD was little with Jet2 our hotel kids club did a movie night 7-9. It was absolutely wonderful as she wasn't interested in the kids club by day as she's an anti social bugger like her mum but she enjoyed the films and popcorn.

We treasured those few hours!! She probably did 4 in a two week period so happy days

Thanks everyone.

This particular hotel is an H10 one in Tenerife.

DS is autistic but very friendly.

I'll see if I can find some information about qualifications and security, etc.

Just bumping this thread for further wisdom. I'm an absolute amateur.

The ones we’ve seen at resorts we’ve stayed at didn’t seem secure at all, lots of wandering in and out, so we stayed outside or went in with Dd

I worked as a kids holiday rep for tui years ago. We would run a few sessions a day for the different age groups, as well as evening sessions. Sessions usually ran for a couple of hours, and parents would leave their kids. Not sure if it’s the same now, but at the time all reps were put through an nvq in early years childcare and education. We were all
also trained in paediatric first aid

We stayed at an H10 hotel in Tenerife and our DC didn’t want to do the kids club in the daytime (shy and tbh we go on hols to spend time together so don’t want to force it), but he loved the kids-only movies in the evening. He’d go after we’d had dinner and sit and enjoy with the other kids. Meant DH and I could enjoy a nice drink in the bar!

MoveOnTheCards · 09/02/2024 22:15

You’ll also find the scheduled activities vary day by day so your child might enjoy something they offer on a Tuesday more than the Thursday activity etc.

Do your research- maybe look at trip advisor and try to ask the question on there a month before you go so it's up to date.

Personally I wouldn't use one as I have seen the set up of some that don't look 100% safe (even 2 Tui rated ones). If dc wanted to go I'd stay where I could see as there are untrustworthy people even on holiday. We also prefer dc with us as it's a family holiday- the 'down time' dc are allowed ipad/ tablet which keeps them quiet as at home it's limited to weekends for an hour only!

Have a great time.

As an only child kids clubs were a god send.
DS didn't go every day but he enjoyed picking activities he knew he'd enjoy and going along to play with other kids his age. The evening chocolate party was always a hit!

As for people who proclaim they wouldn't use them because holidays are family time.... it's two hours a day!! Still plenty of time together as a family.
