Any advice please?

Pretty sure this is a standard scam - they hope that a percentage of the people receiving the email have something worth hiding so they'll pay out . The email I received advised that they knew what a 'naughty' person I was 🤣

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 09/02/2024 20:24

Spam. I had that exact email recently. I just deleted and surprisingly the videos of me jerking off to porn haven't been released yet 🤣🤣

SiriAlexa · 09/02/2024 20:27

I get these from time to time. It's a scam and he should ignore it. They don't have any footage.

If he’s 19, why are you dealing with it?

Assuming you are a mature adult yourself (but jury is out after that comment), surely you can work that out all by yourself?

SiriAlexa · 09/02/2024 20:28

And for the poster who said it's because your DS was looking at porn- that is absolutely not true. It's a ploy to trick people. The scammers have no idea really.

mirror245 · 09/02/2024 20:29

I had this. It was only when I read 'we've got a video of you jerking off to inappropriate porn' that I knew it was fake. I just blocked it and deleted it.

TwelveKeys · 09/02/2024 20:31

saraclara · 09/02/2024 20:21

I'd forgotten that element of the scam a few years ago. That's what freaked out my friend (who was one of the first to get that email)

IIRC it was a password I'd just registered on a new account for Next.

belgiumchocolates · 09/02/2024 20:34

Hope your DS is OK and reassured that it's a scam aimed at random targets , no indication of anything, block and ignore.

Andthereyougo · 09/02/2024 20:36

It’s a scam. Delete and block.
PP just reminded me I had one of these a few years back, never watched porn in my life, wouldn’t know how to access it.

It’s possible his email has been compromised, he should change his password.

HenndigoOZ · 09/02/2024 20:37

These scammers send millions of these emails out knowing that only a few will pay up. It doesn’t cost them much to send the vast numbers of emails harvested from various breaches so the pay off from their point of view is still good. There is no guy on the other end waiting for your son’s response.

TheaBrandt · 09/02/2024 20:38

I get these and have never accessed porn in my life.

The blackmailer threatened to email all my clients details of the websites I had visited. Knock yourself out! They would be bored stiff!

Deathbyfluffy · 09/02/2024 20:39

Old as the hills, just delete

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 09/02/2024 20:40

Oh I've had this too. I just ignored it as it was blatantly a scam and untrue.
Very common scam.

gamerchick · 09/02/2024 20:43

Might be worth sitting him down and going through every scam recorded. This one's pretty old. It started after a black mirror with the same idea if I remember right.

Forewarned and all that.

Rainyblue · 09/02/2024 20:44

I had that exact same scam email today. Same thing, looks like it’s been sent from my account. Apparently I am a pervert and been watching porn and they’d been filming me and it was going to be sent to all my contacts.

So, I’m still waiting for this infamous video of me to be released to my friends and family.

Although if they want to watch me swearing over a Jamie Oliver recipe (one pan easy recipe, my arse) or dragging my menopausal body through a workout on YouTube, feel free. That’s about as exciting as it gets in my house.

No BitCoin from me, losers!!

ArentYouInBedYet · 09/02/2024 20:45

You guys are great - thank you all!

Yes it did start with "Hello Pervert", which now the panic and stress is over I keep saying when he walks in the room 😁

I will help him whether he is 19 or 59! As I would my mum/sister/DD35 - what a strange thing to say @IncognitoUsername didnt realise there was a cut off age for help 😂

Thank you MN

I got that one. Its particularly horrible.
They said that I had to pay £1000 or they would send pictures of me to all my contacts.
I don't have £1000, and I wouldn't have paid if I did so I didn't pay and big surprise, nothing happened.
I reported it but tell him he'll be fine.

IsAWindingRoad · 09/02/2024 20:49

I had this literally a couple of days ago. I admit it frightened me! Bloody spammers!

Hi,

I had full access to your device,
In addition, I have been secretly monitoring all of your activities and watching you for several months.

Let me explain to you what this means.
Thanks to Trojan viruses, I can get full access to your computer or any other device you own.
This means that I can see absolutely everything on your screen, turn on your camera and microphone at any time without your permission.
In addition, I can access and see your confidential information as well as your emails and messages.

You are seen engaging in acts of a sexual nature as well as other indecent acts (you know what I mean).

All I have to do is just share this information (videos, messages) with all
email addresses and other contacts of people you communicate with.

What's more, I can also make all your videos, emails, message histories public.

I'm guessing you'll probably want to avoid that.
Here's what you need to do - transfer the bitc oin equivalent of $700 USD to my bitcoin account
(it's a pretty simple process, which you can check online if you don't know how to do it).

Below is my bitcoin account / wallet information:
1Q3THF2i28uR8QEfFkkUdEkZxfrWbyRsaG

As soon as the required amount is transferred to my account,
I will proceed to delete all this information and disappear from your life once and for all.
Please make sure you complete the above transfer within 80 hours (3 days +).
I will receive a notification as soon as you open this email, at which point the countdown will begin.

Trust me, I am very careful, calculating, and never make mistakes.
If I find that you have shared this message with others,
I will immediately proceed to disclose the personal information I have received from you.

Time is running out.
Take care of yourself and have a good day.

hangsangwitch · 09/02/2024 20:50

I was getting that one about twice a week for months! Ignore.

AllstarFacilier · 09/02/2024 20:51

I’ve got two in my spam box now. Saying they’ve used a Trojan virus to access my files and can see that I’ve been watching porn and they’ve also accessed my camera to see me enjoying the porn etc. I did wonder how many people would fall for it, cause they’re asking for $1250 in bitcoin. All a scam, stick it in junk and ignore it.

JoleneTookHerMan · 09/02/2024 20:52

This happened to me years ago..even gave me an old password of mine as 'proof'.

I blocked and ignored it and changed my password etc. Last I heard of it

Lavender14 · 09/02/2024 20:52

Op just to say (incase it's not been mentioned already) if you click on the email it's come from you can see the full email and it's usually a spam one that's been disguised to look like another email such as your sons. I'd report it anyway as a scam. Your poor son that's very stressful. Does really make you worry about the vulnerable people out there who would get something like that and panic.

FitAt50 · 09/02/2024 20:52

IncognitoUsername · 09/02/2024 18:25

If he’s 19, why are you dealing with it?

Because she is decent human being, who has a son who trusts her enough to ask for help.

padsi1975 · 09/02/2024 20:54

Delighted he told you. Scam. And even if it wasn't and they released some embarrassing stuff....so what? Not the end of the world. Really glad he told you, I hope my kids come to me for help whenever they need it.
