Where in Cornwall would you recommend to go on holiday?

We have three small children (3 1/2 years, 2 years and 6 weeks old).

We're planning to go to Cornwall for a week at the end of June.

We're not originally from the UK, so don't know that much about beautiful destinations.

Is there anywhere in Cornwall you would recommend for a family with small children?

Thanks xx

I'd also vote for Falmouth. Toddler friendly beaches, museum, castle, playground, boat trip to St Mawes, train trip to Truro, easy reach of the Lizard, Roseland peninsula, crabbing at Pandora Inn.

Nice cafes and restaurants locally for grown ups.

Another vote for Bude. For all the reasons mentioned already, but also the fact that your travel time will be way, way less than going all the way down to the bottom.

If the weather is bad, you're not far from The Big Sheep for a day indoors, plus there's a big indoor pool with slides (maybe your kids aren't old enough for them), but I'd just put waterproofs on everyone and get down to the beach. Spend a day at Widemouth (pronounce it properly- wid-e-muth, not wide-mouth), one at Northcott, one at Summerleaze... eat fish & chips, fly a kite, build sandcastles. Bliss.

Pentewan Sands gets another vote. Has its own private beach and there’s so much to do on site and off site. Had the most fantastic holidays here.

Another vote for Mawgen Porth. The Bedruthan Steps Hotel is perfect for families with little ones. And if you can go before the schools break up for summer, all the better!

Another vote for Pentewan Sands from me. I live about 3 miles from there.
Great campsite, super beach, with loads of activities for the little ones, good pub/restaurants in the village. Not far from the Lost Gardens of Heligan or the Eden Project. Mevagissey and Charlestown are close too. There's a lovely walk up through Pentewan Valley with 'family' bikes for hire if you fancy some exercise.

Have you looked at Pembrokeshire? Beautiful sandy beaches and quieter/cheaper than Cornwall.

I’d also strongly endorse Perranporth. It is the ideal place for a beach holiday with young children.

The beach there is magnificent and absolutely huge, particularly at low tide.

There is enough there to do with young children without the brashness and hassle of places such as Newquay.

Pentewan is awesome. Watersports on the massive sandy beach. Lovely little village, loads to do nearby. Feels peaceful but not too far from amenities. No single track roads to get there. Woodland walks nearby - a proper bucket and spade family holiday.

I can walk there from home and would still stay there on holiday Grin

Where are you coming from? As someone said above you don’t need to go all the way to Cornwall for a nice beach. Devon or Dorset are also good options. It depends what you want to do but for most people Cornwall is a long drive and you have very small children.

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 10/02/2024 22:15

Camborne, Redruth or St Austell.

Potatodreams · 10/02/2024 22:16

I’ve been to the Old House as well. It would be great for your kids. An easy holiday as there are things there to keep them entertained.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 10/02/2024 22:17

Fowey or Par

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 10/02/2024 22:24

Polzeath
Perranporth
Crantock.

All lovely. Have a look at Sykes Cottages.
Not Newquay or Falmouth.

Paradiddlediddle · 10/02/2024 22:25

Have a look at the Navigators in polzeath - directly next to the beacb
We have also had some lovely holidays at Retallack.

I love so many places in Cornwall. It’s hard to go wrong!

my top 3 are:

trebarwith strand/ Tintagel (fantastic beach, all beautiful cliffs, and tintagel castle so it’s all about the mythology of King Arthur which is fun!)

Mevagissey

Rock (known as the st tropez of Cornwall I believe)
