well, I have got away with that! Do damage and the lid stayed securely on the pot - which is now very clean

Is it bad I want the lid to come off just to see what will happen? 🤭(Sorry OP)

sorry to disappoint you @ToffeeShocker !

Whew big relief for you, I was imagining greasy outcome.

fourhundredandsomething · 09/02/2024 01:11

I suppose the lesson here is I really should learn to use my machine properly, but it is just so complicated, with downloadable programmes, and phone control bits.... I got it cos it was the cheapest option, and I have only ever turned it on and off really, nothing more than that.

Most of us are like that... Till something goes wrong.

SequentialAnalyst · 09/02/2024 01:12

Glad to hear your outcome Smile

JanglingJack · 09/02/2024 01:14

Just leave it, it's got it's lid on. I'm forever washing vaseline lip balm tins 🤬 nothing happens.

JanglingJack · 09/02/2024 01:15

Just seen update. Well done for not panicking and spending the next 3 hours on endless rinse cycles.

KyleWalkersLibido · 09/02/2024 01:23

Glad there is no damage

donteatthedaisies0 · 09/02/2024 01:32

Glad it's all worked out for you . I flooded my kitchen just before I was meant to go out to work . Loaded machine put soap in but left a string of a bib hanging out . Easy to do , don't think I got to work that day or was very late .

Northernsouloldies · 09/02/2024 01:34

Ask the name of the place... If its called Aphrodites.. Well you know what kind of place it is. 😁

Northernsouloldies · 09/02/2024 01:35

Oops crossed post. 😁

Ponderingwindow · 09/02/2024 02:50

Lucky.

I was expecting very greasy clothing. Took me many washes to get Vaseline out of fabric the one time it got one a single garment.

Outthedoor24 · 09/02/2024 04:35

@fourhundredandsomething glad it's all ok.

@Ponderingwindow
Daft question did you think to try hand-washing using wash-up liquid? Wash-up liquid / dish soap is designed to break down grease so would have would have worked better than laundry detergents at getting something as greasy as vaseline out.

SinnerBoy · 09/02/2024 04:38

I'm glad that you had a happy outcome, fourhundredandsomething

Ponderingwindow

Kitchen degreaser (depending on garment) sprayed on liberally, then placed in a bowl of very hot water helps a lot. When it's cool enough, get in and scrub with a sponge you'll be happy to discard.

Rinse in HOT water, repeat several times. I did that for motorbike chain oil and it has a sticky compound in it.

well, I am learning a lot about what do do next time I make a stupid mistake like this!

Well I'm really glad for you but (sadly) did want to know what would have happened if the kid had come off!

Well, I sorted of wanted to know as well, but not when ALL my work clothes were in there!

I’ve washed loads of lip balms (bloody teens not checking pockets!) and always been ok. Glad you were too!

Qwerty21 · 09/02/2024 08:41

I too have washed vaseline and other lip balms and thankfully lids haven't come off

I thought the lesson would be to check pockets and so on before putting things in the machine.

I’ve often wondered who are those people, the ones who use every single programme and then download some more. I wonder what went wrong in their life and why they cannot be happy with the 40 degree fast one everybody else uses.

YesSmithers · 10/02/2024 12:03

This week I found a McDonalds ketchup in my machine after the cycle finished, thankfully with the lid still intact. Silly me, however, didn't check the rest of the load and then found one a few hours later in the tumble drier,.not so intact.

Oh dear!

noblegiraffe · 13/02/2024 12:12

You are lucky, we had the Vaseline go from the washing machine intact to the tumble drier where the lid stayed on but the Vaseline leaked out of the sides, coated a bunch of clothes and then baked dry on them and ruined them all.
