Dumplings

Will my dumplings work? I only have strong plain flour, spreadable butter and baking powder to use. Recipes say self raising flour and suet or hard butter which is gratable.
Not made them yet but is it worth a go with the ingredients I've got, or shall I stick with mash to go with my beef stew? Thanks

Just buy a packet. About 50p and so easy 🤣

DrSpartacular · 08/02/2024 16:16

No reason why they shouldn't work as long as your 'butter' isn't low fat.

ADoggyDogWorld · 08/02/2024 16:21

IDK, I always use Atora veg suet, you're brave to attempt without! Report back!

No raising agent and no suet - they won't work. Spreadable butter wouldn't be a dealbreaker though.

mrsbyers · 08/02/2024 16:24

There is a raising agent , they will
work fine

sprigatito · 08/02/2024 16:26

Ugh, forgive my crappy reading comprehension! There is a raising agent. Will be interested to hear how they turn out!

Dussa · 08/02/2024 16:27

Ok well they are in the oven on top of the stew (casserole really), will report back.

I want them now though and it's too snowy to venture out to the shops

Well they worked, a bit too well..they fluffed up and filled the whole top of the casserole dish 😅 but very satisfying.
