Ryanair bag choice (with photos)

petitetiti · 08/02/2024 08:59

Please ignore the colours. I need a bag that is 40 x 25 x 20 to travel on Ryanair.

  1. Should I go for the backpack or messenger?
  2. Will the handles on the messenger be an issue at all?

Thanks

I don't know anything about RyanAir bag sizes OP but the first bag is lovely.

Id do the backpack as it's easier to carry and doesn't have floppy handles that catch on ever

idontlikealdi · 08/02/2024 09:18

Is this for the underseat bag? I'd go for the first one. I have this cheap as chips one from Amazon, can fit loads in it, I take a cross body bag as well and shove that in there for boarding. From your two I would go for the first one.

I thought that but I was not sure if it might be too heavy when full to carry around. Thanks.

Thank you, this is what I was going for. Also may be more comfortable to carry.

Yes, it's the free allowance / underseat. It needs to be 40 x 25 x 20 max.

Your one is REALLY cheap!!! Was it OK to carry though?

That cheap one looks great but is it sturdy enough?

dementedpixie · 08/02/2024 12:46

These were the ones dh and I used on ryanair

The cheap one @idontlikealdi mentions is absolutely the best bag in the world!!! The shape of it means you can get loads in, much more than you would think. It's honestly my favourite amazon purchase of all time.

Zebracat · 08/02/2024 17:53

I can’t answer the op dilemma, but I love tha5 Amazon bag, just ordered it.

Backpack, I got a messenger for a trip last year and even though I was just hopping on a flight for two hours - it was a farce

BrownTableMat · 08/02/2024 19:55

I’ve got this one and recommend it - sturdy, fits loads in, easy to carry. Perhaps not the prettiest depending on whether you like one of the colours it comes in, but I’m very happy with it:

Are you purely going for practicality. Backpack definitely more practical but first bag much nicer to look at.

FacingTheWall · 08/02/2024 22:00

Backpack for sure. We’ve found they’re much less likely to question you over the size of it if you’re wearing it on your back.

Quizine · 08/02/2024 22:10

Backpack every time. Cabin Max Metz range are the right size, similar to a version posted above. The one you posted looks very solid and padded maybe? That can reduce the inner size which is a factor for the Ryanair underseat size as it's not very generous.

If going for the carry bag, it's a great bonus if it can be looped over the wheelie case handle with a sleeve thing. Can't think what to call it, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. It's a nice bag, but personally if I'm not using a backpack then I like to be able to put the bag handles over my shoulder. Maybe yours does that. I find the long single strap uncomfortable, but that's just me!

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 08/02/2024 22:23

I'd go for the backpack. Way easier when you are waiting around for buses to/from airports. You will have to keep putting the first bag down or switching from hand to hand. Although it looks lovely, it isn't practical for travelling imo.
Just make sure the straps on the backpack can be extended enough to wear over winter coats.

petitetiti · 09/02/2024 16:15

Thank you for all your advice and for sharing your experience. I bought the backpack in the end. With the travelling and walking around the airport, I think it will be easier to have my hands free.
