Can people tell you have had a glass of wine?

It’s easy to spot when lots of my friends have had a glass of wine. I can be quite drunk and people have no idea. Unless you saw me drinking of course.

It’s not that I don’t get or feel tipsy, I’m just good at hiding it.

As a former heavy drinker, I used to kid myself that people never noticed I was drunk, then I woke up to the fact that I was always just that slightly bit drunk

That probably says more about the observation skills of the people making those comments, than about your outward display while under the influence of alcohol. Not everyone staggers and slurs, but there will be other signs like appearing happier or more disagreeable than normal, speaking faster or slower, slower reactions, slower thinking etc.

They definitely would be able to tell, since I have been booze free for about 4 years. 😂
At around 40, I completely stopped coping with alcohol. Something to do with a liver enzyme, apparently, that tends to disappear as females get older. It doesn't tend to do this in males.
So that's that 🥴

Only because I turn bright red and break out in hives - otherwise, who would know? 😉😂

Glad it's not just me!

@MissusKay Has that always happened? I was fine before peri menopause, now the redness and heat in my face is awful.

Me too! But I always did to some extent, being a redhead

Definitely not after one glass, I wouldn't even feel tipsy. After two, I'm probably a bit more chilled out/slower to react. After three I'd be feeling drunk but I very rarely get to three drinks.

Can normally smell it on the breath.

Where I used to work, the lab would get blood specimens from those done for (alleg) drunk driving. One day a chap reeled into the lab muttering that he did not understand why he had to be tested. This was at 5.15 and I had to reel back from the beer smell!

I can tell if my husband has had a pint at lunchtime or after work when he gets home. He has a ‘tell’, I can’t really describe it but as soon as he walks in the door I notice it and ask ‘have you had a drink’ and 99 times out of 100 when I ask he responds that he has.

(doesn’t happen often but both he and I are surprised at my accuracy and he often bemoans there’s no chance of a crafty pint when I’m around).

so yeah. If you know someone well enough I think you can tell after only one drink.

Honestly, middle age seems to mean I have a far higher tolerance for alcohol than I used to.
