OH has recently taken up cooking as a hobby and has a few cook books but I want to buy him another for V day. Would love some recommendations.
We already have
Jamie - veg, one pot wonders
Gordon - quick and easy
Pinch of nom

Looking for nice wholesome family friendly recipes not including billions of super expensive ingredients!

Highly recommend Dinner by Nagi Maehashi. A really great variety of foods and always reliable. Her website RecipeTinEats has a huge back catalogue too. Loads of her recipes have made it into our regular rotation of meals.

Two Chubby Cubs. Much better than Pinch of Nom

Can't recommend Ruby Tandoh's Flavour highly enough, ticks all your boxes and lots of creative combinations as well.

I don't have any of Meera Sodha's books yet but if her Guardian column is anything to go by they'll all be good.

Old cookbooks from the second hand shop. The sort of food your grandmother would recognise made well and beautifully written.

Or Elizabeth David.

A good basic book ( not Delia basic) is Prue Leith's cookery bible. It has recipes of all standards and it's invaluable for recipes you should know off by heart, like white sauce, in one way place

Nigella gets a bad press for unusual ingredients but I’ve usually found her books really good.

I like Nigel Slater, Hugh F-W and absolutely love Rukmini Iyer

I like the Hairy (dieters) Bikers ones, I've got 3 and they are used a lot

I got my dh Fire Food by DJ BBQ and he loved it. More than I expected, I just chose it in a hurry.

I'd definitely recommend adding a bbq cookbook to your list!

“Simple” and “From the oven to the table” by Diana Henry are my go to. Absolutely fab recipes, easy to do, but some of them I have even served at a dinner party.

SweetChilliGirl · 08/02/2024 11:26

I use my Curry Bible (Madhur Jeffrey) all the time.

Thanks ladies, off to explore these suggestions!

Delia's winter and summer collection
Nigella's Feast
Jemie's Ministry of Food.
I absolutely love Rick Stein's Far Eastern Oddysey but it does have some unusual ingredients, easy to get them online though.
