Hi, so I'm applying for DD's first passport. I'm supporting documents it's asking for my birth certificate with parents details on. The only birth certificate I have (and parents have) for me is just a small square piece of paper with my name only on. It's had my dob and all that just not their names. Will this be rejected? Or am I being daft and reading what it's requesting wrong and it means the my name on the birth cert is to match my name on DD's? I hope someone can help and I'm sure I'm just being daft haha xx

You need to order the full one as the short one doesn’t have the details they want.

clarrylove · 07/02/2024 08:16

You have the short form birth certificate. Sounds like they need the long form certificate.

Oh bugger okay thank you I'll get sorted asap then! While doing so I'll get my parents to double check their lofts see if they can find it! Thank you for your help x

Are you British? If so, why do you need your birth certificate?

When I applied for DS, I needed to provide just our passport details and nothing else.

GreyDuck · 07/02/2024 08:21

Your parents might not have the long version. I only had the short one (apparently it was free, and the full one cost money).
I got an official copy of the long one from the registrar's office.

WarningOfGails · 07/02/2024 08:21

Do you have a British passport yourself?

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 07/02/2024 08:21

Do you have a passport? I didn't think you needed to provide anything more if you did. I've never had my full birth certificate, but I could get my kids' passports without it. The rules may have changed though.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/02/2024 08:22

You have to buy the long ones from the General Register Office... your parents likely don't have one!

I had to apply last week for one, I didn’t need my birth certificate just my DCs long form one that had mine and DHs details on.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 07/02/2024 08:55

Yes you just apply to the GRO.

It's really not difficult and not unusual to have a short birth certificate only. They weren't routinely given years back.

AnneButNotHathaway · 07/02/2024 09:12

I think they need a full form one. Also whenever you'll need a picture, these baby passport photo tips have been really helpful!

Yes I have a passport and put my passport number on. I'll just have to order my full one. Wondering if it's because DD's dad doesn't know where his passport is so i didn't put his passport number on online application.

I don’t have the long one, only the short one. Never been a problem for me

Hi I was just looking for an update if your birth certificate was enough info as I’m in the same situation?
