Urgent advice needed for dh's toe...

Dh has a badly ingrown toe nail which is causing him agony. He has a severe phobia of needles and is ND so not easy to encourage him to overcome the fear. I am going to take him to see a podiatrist but want to be reassured before I go and put him in a situation where he has to refuse treatment because something involving a needle is offered that he won't necessarily have to have an injection? Anyone had similar and if so what are the treatment options please? Horrible seeing him in so much pain. He's just got in from work and taken off his boots and is not feeling good at all. Thanks all.

They can try to help it in a less invasive way with antiseptic rubs etc, antibiotics etc.

But, and I say this as the parent of two needle phobic autistic teens, sometimes you need to be truthful that failing to treat will result in more invasive treatments.

Sepsis is no joke and can kill and that is the risk of leaving it untreated.

Is he feeling ill, like he has the flu (shivering, aches, fever)? If so, it sounds like the infection is spreading and I would be getting concerned about it being sepsis. This warrants A&E as it can't wait until the morning!

What other symptoms does he have?

My ex nearly lost his toe (also nd) because of waiting it out until he couldn't bear it any more and became ill. It can be serious. I'd get him seen ASAP. If necessary you can advocate for him and if he consents then you can ask for him to be given sedatives to help

Thank you everyone, not shivering etc just in a lot of pain after unrealistically thinking he had fixed it himself...unfortunately I also just had a really bad infection ( not anything foot related ) and the GP spoke to us both about the risk of Sepsis if they didn't operate on me immediately when thanking DH for bringing me straight into A&E, which fortunately they did and I'm recovered but I wish DH would apply his own advice to himself about his toe. Thank you for everyone who has replied, I think he is coming around to the idea of just getting sorted. I said I'd post on here so will advise him that you guys think it needs looking at ASAP too, since I posted he seems a lot more willing to get it treated which is good. Fear is horrible but not half as bad as getting seriously ill. Fortunately we are next door neighbours with the local walk in centre so if we pop over now we can always come home until they call us to say they're free. Will update with what he / they say xx

Sorry, posted too soon. If it's really bad this will at least ease it until you can see someone.

Try this. It works in a few days and you can ease the nail out. It's fantastic stuff. Loads of positive reviews on Amazon.
