What do you search for when you have a nose on Rightmove?

I usually look for properties 4bed min, with garden and off road parking, where I live/where I used to live/where we like to go on holiday. I pretend that I'm genuinely looking for a suitable place.

Then I critique/rearrange/extend/plan - daydream, basically!

What do you look for?

I like looking for houses with a garden backing onto nothing but large fields and scenic views . Not many of those around though because houses just keep getting built on any spare piece of land developers can get their hands on.

Ooo distant islands -that's a nice daydream search. (I could not live rurally. Totally townie, me.)

I have different scenarios in mind when doing a search. Lottery winner, Euro Lottery winner, Big premium bond winner, what we could realistically afford, and downsizing.

My ideal is probably a fairly modest house, but with acres and acres I could re-wild and be surrounded by trees, ponds, heathy bits and clearings with different habitats for rabbits, squirrels, badgers and foxes, all safe living their little lives away from pesticides, traffic, and human interference.

My search is £1m+, 5+beds and location is always Sussex, Liverpool or Yorkshire (one of those is the place I already live...no idea why I search the other two)

shellyleppard · 06/02/2024 19:05

Op.....i search for homes near the seaside. Where I live alone......sheer bliss

letmeeatinpeace · 06/02/2024 19:40

I worry if we made the right choice with ours, so I often have a nose on rightmove to see what else has come along and if it's any better, particularly anything with a better layout.

I should really just spend the energy making our current place more homely..!

letmeeatinpeace · 06/02/2024 19:41

I also like looking in trendy areas to get interior design inspiration.

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 06/02/2024 19:44

I love looking at houses on Rightmove. I love the "lottery win dream" and if they've got a virtual tour then I'm there! I waste way too much time looking round random houses tbh! 😂

BouleDeSuif · 06/02/2024 19:52

Enormous country houses. Great big ones, old as possible, with stables and outdoor pool and wood panelled everything and vast fireplaces and kitchens you could get lost in.
I live in a council flat but it's nice to dream!

Singleandproud · 06/02/2024 20:01

I wish there was an option to filter by age/character properties.. There's a website that has railway cottages and there was a fab one in Scotland that had a railway line at the end of the garden that just had a steam train go along a couple of times a week.

emmylousings · 06/02/2024 20:01

I look for fantasy buy to let's - if I had the guts to do it!
Also love looking at houses near me to see what they are like inside.
Generally take the piss out of most people's tastes.
I enjoy thinking "wtf, you will never get £££ for that!!"

erniesmilkcart · 06/02/2024 20:08

Houses in my area that are £££ especially if a doer upper or has lots of period features. Also have a dream of setting up a childcare from home setting so that tends to tie in with my day dreams too. There's an ex nursery and an old school near me which I often waste time on.

SunflowerSeeds123 · 06/02/2024 20:13

Property porn. Then two bed houses in my old county. Then two bed flats off the old East London Overground line.

I'm quite poor.

Redglitter · 06/02/2024 20:16

I search the postcodes of everywhere I've lived to see if any of my old houses come up for sale

I have those searches saved with instant email notifications if anything is listed 🙈

I love looking at London prices either the lower or higher end of the scale fascinate me

CeeJay81 · 06/02/2024 20:18

I like to look for the house I'd buy if I won the lottery. Like to see what's available at the moment if it happened. About £700,000 would buy what I'd be happy with lol.

feelingalittlehorse · 06/02/2024 20:19

“No max price”

Clicks ‘search’. Daydreams.

Not distant, but if you like islands, you could have some fun looking at this site - it is Jersey's equivalent to Rightmove

Everything within 3 miles to me, for sale and to rent.
Also no max price in the Cotswolds, esp hankering after Jacobean mansions and Georgian rectories I could never afford.
Big and small period houses, so everything on Inigo really.
