Labelling child's clothes / name tags?

First time parent here, to a child who keeps on losing jumpers at nursery! What name tag things do people use to quickly label their child's clothing please?

Definitely the sticker ones. There are some companies that will do then in colours and with a little picture on so if your DC can't read their name yet they can find their clothes.

I always buy the name stickers from here! https://www.petit-fernand.co.uk/

@LadyDanburysHat oh that's a really good idea having pictures!

I just write his name on the label with a sharpie.

Merrow · 06/02/2024 14:21

Stikins. I also get them with our phone number on them. Mainly for losing coats at parks etc, but I also taught DS1 to say from a young age "my mummy's phone number is in my shoe".

A Sharpie. Tried the stickers and a personalised stamp, then ran out and realised a Sharpie works just as well. Tbh though it’s odd it’s such a problem. If it’s left at nursery then should get found when they clean up, if it accidentally goes home with another kid unless the parents are opportunistic thieves surely they realise it’s not theirs and send it back?? I’ve had 2 kids in 3 nurseries and it’s never been a problem until school, and even then everything has always shown up eventually.

Started with those printed ones you sew on then laboriously remove and sew on the next set of uniform. Tumbled down in the slatternly mother stakes, now I just scribble on the label with a marker pen :)

I've used petit Ferdinand iron on labels. Not had an issue with them falling out. I've managed to fit all three of my children's first names above their last name on one label, saves me from changing labels when I hand down their uniform

Another vote for petit ferdinand, I put sur name and my phone no I have had several coats returned as people have called me! Also of child is lost I used to tell them to show the number in their coat for someone to call me

SnapdragonToadflax · 06/02/2024 14:49

Laundry pen. Bloody brilliant things. Stikins are good for things like the water bottle.

Mitherations · 06/02/2024 14:51

I also wrote on the clothes label with a Sharpie. Did the job.

spiderlight · 06/02/2024 14:56

Stikins.

Rayna37 · 06/02/2024 15:18

You see everyone is saying Stikins/Sharpie but I found there's a lot to be said for a very visible sewn-in name tag inside the collar. Not so important for trousers etc but critical for something that is taken on/off and can be left behind.

I find school don't bother to hunt for a name and unless blindingly obvious it just gets thrown in lost property with the onus on the child/parent to retrieve it. From what I can tell from the WhatsApp group we're the only ones not routinely losing jumpers.

ICanSeeMyHouseFromHere · 06/02/2024 15:25

Sharpie, not just on the label - also on the waistband of sweatshirts/somewhere not immediately obvious and completely un-removable elsewhere.

My kid's first school had a bit of a problem with uniform going missing, and re-appearing with the label cut out. Flipping up the sleeve cuff and showing my kid's name in massive black letters over it tended to deal with that issue.

A combination of stickers and a stamp and inkpad from stamptastic.

I use these, and include my mobile number so can be contacted directly if item is found. Has also been helpful when child needed to tell someone my number.

I second this! I ordered some sticker ones and iron on labels.

The delivery took a little while (like 10days ish) but great service overall.

gettingalife82 · 06/02/2024 15:31

Thanks everyone! I've placed an order now!

Stick or iron on labels are always good for some items, but if you can scrounge the time to use sewn on labels eventually as they get older, you will save a lot of money. With practice you do get quicker at them. My children were happy that some of their stuff they've taken to university is still labelled ... Oh and it's the only way to prevent their father acquiring everyone else's socks! But that's some years off for most of you yet!

Mummyofthewildones · 06/02/2024 18:52

Agree, stickers mainly. Tried petit fernand but found mynametags to be much cheaper. Also have a stamp from stamptastic but can't be arsed with it when I can just stick a label on. Also went for just surname as can use for both DCS.

NotMeNoNo · 06/02/2024 19:08

For little kids it's helpful to have an obvious label in the neckline that they can recognise - useful at school when everyone has the same top. Whether you need an anti theft marking too depends on your school.
I also have some small stickers of just surname and my mobile number which I still stick in coats , rucksacks etc after a few being lost on days out etc.

worthingmum1 · 23/07/2024 16:56

if you want to try something else more hard-wearing that doesn't budge (either the ink itself or the label) - I use the plastic buttons from https://attachatag.com/ haven't had any issues so far and they're reusable which is fab!
