Tea, taste and turmoil

Is it me or has the taste of Twinning Earl Grey changed for the worse - I'm just not enjoying it lately and my wife agrees - it tastes as though it's been brewed from stale leaves yet it's all in date - I can't sense the settings it taste from the bergamot any more.

I drink T2 Earl Grey loose leaf tea on occasions - it's lovely tea but at the other extreme - it's too much of a sensory overload for me to drink it all the time (plus it's expensive).

I've switched to Twinning green tea with lemon - I really haven't find a green tea I could stand but the one with lemon brewed for only 2 mins not using boiling water (as advised on the packet) is OK.

The only other tea I drink is the Twinnings Lemon and Ginger with a teaspoon of honey. There's also a raspberry one combined with strawberry (I think) that's OK (with a bit of honey.

I can't drink strong tea like Yorkshire.

Twinnings EG - have you noticed it's worse than it used to be?
What's a green tea with trying if plain green tea is too bitter?

...worth trying...

Green tea with jasmine

Worth contacting them. Years ago now I used to drink Clipper Earl Grey, black. I bought it in quite big batches and had a delivery where the taste of bergamot was overwhelming. It was like drinking perfumed oil. I emailed them and they said sorry but they couldn’t see any issue. But two weeks later they emailed to say they had come across a production issue and there was too much bergamot in a whole shipment. So I hadn’t been imagining it and obviously others letting them know had prompted them to look into it. So it’s worth letting them know that as a regular drinker you’ve noticed a difference.

If you're going to write to them, it's Twinings, not Twinnings! I've always thought their EG was a bit overrated tbh. I do drink their decaf EG though, as it's usually the only one in stock.

@PoppingTomorrow I will try and get some with Jasmine that sounds nice - it's not in my local supermarket but I'm heading to a town with a Waitrose today... surely they'll have it.

Rooibos with vanilla

I've stopped buying the Twinings lemon and ginger for the same reason. The taste is so different now.

I'm a fan of Pukka Earl Grey, although you may find it too strong. Can't bear any of their other teas though as they all have liquorice in them!
Also Hoogly do a lovely jasmine and green tea, you might enjoy sencha tea as well. You might have a local stockist, if not they're online.

@Pashazade I did wonder if it was just me that's so particular and hard to please when it comes to tea. I also wonder if it's just over familiarity and restless taste buds - now and again I try and find another tea I can drink...every day... for life.

@PoppingTomorrow The green tea with Jasmine is fine - I'll manage one cup a day. Again sticking to 2 mins is about right otherwise that green tea bitterness vibes through - otherwise it's like something I've swilled my wheelie bin out with.

The T2 EG tea is fantastic but again - I wouldn't want more than one cup in a day.

First world problems eh!

Yeah you definitely don't want to brew it - better with water that has come off the boil so it doesn't burn, and then barely a minute or two works for me.

You might like roibos /red bush tea?
