TV series 'The Secret' is this something typical in NI - not the murder

OK so I binge watched this on Netflix, if you have not seen it the TV series is about the Murders of Hazel and Trevor Buchanan. It is a true story but as always there will be elements made up.

But, at Trevor Buchanan's funeral his widow is wearing red. Actually it might be the wake, but the day of the funeral.

I don't think I have ever seen that at a funeral unless it is something like people being asked to wear a favorite colour, or football team's shirts.

Is this something that is normal in NI?

I’ve not seen the series, but I assume this is a somewhat heavy-handed visual hint that his widow wasn’t exactly breaking her heart her husband was dead! Especially as she presented herself to police later on as passive and not responsible for the murders.

No, there is no NI tradition of wearing red to a spouse’s funeral.

Thank you for answering.

I know it is sometimes done in South Africa, and I have been on here long enough to know Irish and NI funerals are a different thing to England.

My mum wore red to my dad's funeral. Somerset, England, 2012.

She was devastated to lose dad but also possessed of a very strong faith that they'd be together again and happy for him to be released from his long illness.

There was no direction to others to wear anything in particular - she wouldn't dream of dictating! And certainly no comment that it reflected on a lack of grief.

@AccidentallyFabulous Sorry for your loss, and I like the sound of your mum.
