Is anyone else following this? I was pretty impressed with her findings and advice so far. I know her Insta approach to science has been a bit marmite for some people, but I liked that it was innovative and reaching a different audience.
But this week's announcement of her new pills seems like a huge misstep and there's been a massive unkind backlash.

(Funny how any negative reaction to Tim Spector's new plastic-wrapped kefir at M&S isn't getting quite the same personal criticism Hmm).

Bonkers isn’t it @GinandGingerBeer that you have no choice to monitor your glucose levels as it’s life and death for you…. while non-diabetics are choosing to do it for no clinical benefit.

I have to admit to being sucked into it for a while and then woke up that the science around benefits for non diabetics is just not there and as expected, these influencers are now using this new problem to sell us (expensive) solutions. I don’t think it’s necessarily dodgy, just that these influencers are seeing what they want to believe and are so far in now, it’s got to point of confirmation bias.

Thank you @Theonlylonely

I wrestle with disordered eating so am very slow to ‘buy into’ anything new on principle. I do a bit of it. So I eat more fermented foods, more whole grain foods, more variety… rather than adopting anything wholesale.

I am using Slimming world which I know has a bad rep, but I’m also using intuitive eating alongside it. If I want to blow my allowance I do. I follow the proportions and weigh in regularly. I eat a mixture of full fat and fat free dairy- the latter when I need to eat large amounts of something and a small amount of a whole food isn’t going to hit the spot.

Sorry for the digression- I’m just trying to rationalise what I do to myself 🤣. I had a personal trainer say she wouldn’t work on my food intake because I have too many ‘rules’ about food and it worried her.

I don't understand all of the negativity. I, for one, am very grateful for all of the research J. I. ( Glucose Goddess) has put into this. I eat organic and healthy, but still like an occasional sweet. I have been insulin resistant for years and was born to a mother who had gestational diabetes, which makes it nearly impossible for me to lose weight as hard as I try and is a precursor to diabetes. I do not want to end up with diabetes! Just because I don't yet have diabetes doesn't mean I shouldn't have all of the information and tools I can possibly gather in order to blunt glucose spikes, so I can hopefully avoid getting diabetes. And as far as J. I. Introducing Anti-spike... Again, I'm grateful! I wish it wasn't so expensive, but I'm willing to try it since it's proven to be better than the effects of vinegar, which I do not tolerate well. It does funky things to my skin when I ingest too much of it, and my tooth enamel is already quite thin.
Why shouldn't J. I. profit from her hard work?. Especially when there are plenty of people out here crying out for a better option than drinking vinegar. I am grateful for glucose goddess bringing these "hacks" to the forefront so we can use them for bettering our health.
And for the naysayers who say this is just going to promote people eating more sugar.... I'm sorry, but if that's how you're going to use these tools, the result you get is on you!
J. I. regularly warns that this is not how to use these tools.
I think some people just can't stand to see others being successful and profiting off of their work.

My opinion is it’s okay to bring in a product that many of her followers have been asking for - an alternative to her vinegar hack. She’s been very clear that it’s not essential, that vinegar is an alternative and that even just some of the hacks are helpful.

I did the Zoe programme, the CGM aspect was interesting but I think it did make me personally quite anxious. I’ve found Glucose Goddess tips to be more helpful in a way, I’m not a diabetic but knowing you should eat no more than 25g added sugar per day and actually doing it are different things. The positives for me of her work and zoe are that it has motivated me to eat more whole foods, vegetables for breakfast and before meals, portions of starchy carbs are more medium sized, I am giving my kids veg platters before every meal and I don’t have cake as a snack anymore.

Yeah, it's put me off her. I've also got very skeptical about Zoe and their latest changes in microbiome measurement meaning lots of people have gone from being told they have a good microbiome to being told they had a poor one. I feel like they overpromised and people are getting too anxious about details that really aren't settled in the science. I keep meaning to contact them about the ethics of experimenting using our data whilst only allowing us access to the results if we carry on an expensive monthly subscription. I was reading this yesterday questioning the use of CGM in people without diabetes wchh.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/pdi.2475

Popping back to say thank you to @MurielThrockmorton for sharing that interesting article by Dr Nicola Guess who is a Diabetes Dietitian and researcher and very much sceptical of Glucose Goddess and Zoe. I feel like both have still been useful inspiration to actually eat better, now i’m actually eating the recommended amount of fibre and veg - but i’ll take what they say on with caution.

This is a blog from Nicola Guess’s substack titled “Glucose Goddess, The Crime of Pointlessness”

‘She’s been very clear that it’s [the supplement] not essential, that vinegar is an alternative’

Both are woo with zero scientific evidence
