Has anyone completed a fear of flying course and did it help?

I’ve not flown for a while and now need to take 3 return flights within the next 3 months. Two of the flights are international. One is internal in to a very busy London airport. One of the flights is almost 5 hours long. I will be travelling alone.

I cannot sleep a wink for worrying, but I don’t know what I’m fearful of. Possibly a fault and a crash? A hijack? I have young DC so these thoughts make it worse.

How can I overcome this? I was considering a FoF course, but will it help?

My mum did - the Virgin one which was at Gatwick at the time. She found it really helpful and has since done several long haul flights with significantly less anxiety. She was particularly impressed with the pilot who talked through the physics of flying and how low risk it is in comparison with many everyday activities.

I did the virgin one at Manchester. It was really good. A pilot explains the aerodynamics and turbulence etc, someone else gives you relaxation techniques and then you do a short flight with the pilot talking you through everything. I still have a small drink during the flight too.

I’ve done one - best thing I ever did 😁 completely cured by fear of flying to the point I actively look forward to it

I listened to the Louise Hay overcoming fear audiotape a few weeks pre flight and also at the airport. Over time I went from panic attacks and sleepless nights to getting on a plane without a second thought. Worth a try if you're open to it.

Id really love to do one so reading with interest.

I have found that the more I fly the easier it gets. The few times I've done a connecting flight I've always been really chilled on the second flight. Usually too knackered after 8-11 hours in the air that the fear goes away.

I've been hypnotised to help my fear of flying. It worked really well.

The one out of Heathrow is excellent. Life-changing for the two people I know who did it.

My mum did the Virgin one. She really benefitted from it, at worst she has low level, typical nerves on take off and is then fine. She's been on a fair few flights since and doesn't worry about flying when planning holidays now, she just books it.

I did the EasyJet one at Manchester Airport. I used to need at least two vodkas to get on a plane and would be a nervous wreck all through it. I would say I am a fairly relaxed flier now as I use the knowledge and techniques I learned on the course. I would recommend one, fir me it was a great investment.
