Any dentists? Can I have a bath today?

Probably a stupid question but the dentist said something about not taking a bath and I can't remember how long for!

I had an upper tooth removed on Monday. It's healing perfectly but I'm desperate for a soak in the bath and can't get through to the practice!

Thank you!

You're probably fine now.
Maybe it was in case you got lightheaded soon after the tooth was removed. If its healing and you feel OK then I dont see why it would be an issue

Been a long time since I've had a tooth out, can't remember them saying not to have a bath.

Mine said not to have a really hot one and not too much sploshing about as no bath water in the tooth gap.

Any chance you miss heard something about "bathing" the tooth/rinsing?

Lovemusic82 · 01/02/2024 16:44

I think it’s because a hot bath can make you bleed more? I would have thought it would be fine now.

I even double checked with the nurse that I hadnt misunderstood and he was talking about bathing my mouth but no it was baths. Just wish I could remember the time period he said!

In the early stages after extractions the blood clot that forms in the socket can be easily dislodged by increases in blood pressure. So you should avoid anything that can cause that for around 48 hours post extraction. Very hot baths can cause this to occur, as can exercise, or anything strenuous. You should be fine now.

Mairzydotes · 01/02/2024 16:54

Were you sedated for the procedure?

This makes sense, thank you!
