Italian food lovers… what dish is this?

A few years ago I had the most incredible, delicious pasta from a little italian cafe. It wasn’t called lasagne, it was called something different but very much resembled lasagne. From memory, it had the bolognese sauce and possibly the bechamel (I think!) but it didn’t have lasagne sheets, I’m pretty sure it was pasta similar to penne….

I’d love to get the name and try to cook it myself.

Pasticcio

Agree with PP although isn't it Greek rather than Italian?

I was just going to say the same, Pastitsio.

A local pub used to have a Cypriot landlord, this was always on the menu. The white sauce on top had eggs mixed in, like the sauce on moussaka. He used to serve it with Greek salad.

If it was Italian, it was likely 'pasta al forno' which is very similar to the Greek pastitsio.

Yes that is it! Thank you so much.

A little worried about it turning out dry. Would I be better using fresh pasta?

Sorry just seen this. No dry pasta is OK but you need to cook it first, make sure it's al dente or just a little undercooked and then you can mix it with bechamel sauce and bolognese sauce and put it in the oven.

Pasta al forgot, my nonna made an amazing one. She used farfalle instead of penne though. Thanks for reminding me 😊
