The Human Being Diet… have you done it?

Heybarbie1028 · 31/01/2024 22:03

I’ve just discovered the HBD diet. I’ve posted recently about how I am extremely overweight (17 stone, 5”6) and extremely unhealthy.

The HBD seems like it could be a good option for me, to completely reset my nutrition and diet and learn how to eat well again.

Has anyone done it? What were your experiences?

I refuse to cannibalise people.

Curious to know if different races taste differently?

Are Asian people spicy?

Do Nordic people taste bland?

Read the book Why We Eat Too Much. You don't need a diet. 10 days of oil free and then 2 days of just veg is going to do you no favours.

Cannibalism sounds better!

No, Nordic people are fermented. Like their fish delicacies.

There was a very interesting article in the Telegraph (not my usual read tbh) about the HBD. The writer had lost a lot of weight on it over the past couple of years and she looked amazing. It had clearly worked for her! Sounded like it was a low carb high protein type diet with strict rules around no snacking. I have bought the cookbook on Amazon and am curious about it.

Heybarbie1028 · 31/01/2024 22:41

@Fannymadams I am reading the article now as we speak!

What utter rot! "HBD, which is suitable for all men and women (other than those who are breastfeeding or pregnant) is split into 4 phases." Beyond medically unsound. Put a diabetic on that diet or someone with renal or cardiac disease or any manner of illnesses and see how they do. "Metabolic reset" my arse. Somebody should let the NHS know...we'd save billions!

Never mind those with financial, energy or time constraints or those who want pleasure in life and value balance and their mental wellbeing. Total codswallop and you should be embarrassed to be pushing or adhering to such tripe!

Junobug · 31/01/2024 22:45

I guess it depends if you think you can stick to a low carb diet? Because, statistically, even people who should do them for medical reasons, don't. Carbs aren't the enemy we think they are. We need to just eat real food, most of which is veg. Anything more and you are setting yourself up to fail.

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 31/01/2024 22:52

I’ve used it as a way to kickstart myself back into better eating, but I had less than 0.5 stone to lose.
I find the first few days are hard, so you stick to the plan as you don’t want to restart! But I have never struggled with my weight, so I likely find this easier than some.

I find it’s easy to stick to the meals and reminds you what a healthy portion is.

its just about eating real foods that fill you up and prevent sugar spikes……..

HardcoreLadyType · 31/01/2024 22:59

It sounds a faff, to be honest.

I do intermittent fasting. It’s not a weight loss diet, but cutting out breakfast and evening snacking means you cut out those additional calories, so I have lost some weight, but very slowly.

Honestly, you know the drill. Eat plenty of vegetables and lean protein. Healthy fats. Eat more complex carbohydrates, rather than starchy or sugary ones. Maybe cut down on drinking (if that’s an issue for you).

Fit exercise into your life. Walk up the escalator. Walk up the stairs, instead of using the lift. Get off the bus a couple of stops early and walk the rest of the way. Or find something you enjoy, and make time for it. Swimming? Hiking? Badminton?

Small changes that you can stick to are much more likely to work for you than restrictive diets where you have to regularly weigh the foods you eat.

PaulCostinRIP · 31/01/2024 23:07

THE FOUR PHASES
Phase 1: Preparation. 2 days of vegetables only
Phase 2: Reset. 14 days of eating 3 meals a day, combining equal weights of one type of protein and a mixture of vegetables and eating 1 apple a day
Phase 3: Burn. 10 weeks of a continuation of phase 2, with the addition of olive oil and a weekly treat meal
Phase 4: Forever. A continuation of phase 3 and a discovery of which foods best suit us. Experimenting with extra treat meals but maintaining the HBD principles.

What a load of bollocks.

MustardGreenAndPlum · 31/01/2024 23:12

I tried it for 3 weeks. It is brutal.

Absolutely

@MustardGreenAndPlum oh really?

Of course you'll lose weight if you just eat leafy vegetables for days...

Sounds hard and unnecessary.

This is all sound advice. I'd just add - only eat when you're actually hungry. Not bored, tired, stressed.

Heybarbie1028 · 31/01/2024 23:16

@MustardGreenAndPlum oh really?

Not even a cup of tea at 3pm to keep you going.

Heybarbie1028 · 31/01/2024 23:25

Can you eventually re introduce tea?

OP posts:
MustardGreenAndPlum · 31/01/2024 23:30

You can only have tea or any other drink other than water with your meal - and then wait 5 hours for your next one.

unsync · 31/01/2024 23:33

Sounds awful. Do Slimpod instead. It gives your head a wobble and resets your relationship with food.

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom · 31/01/2024 23:41

This x a billion!

Any diet will work for a very small amount of people - some of whom then go onto make a living out of spruiking it. For the vast majority, it won't work and we are left feeling like we've failed.

Figure out what you did to get to where you are and methodically, with all the support you can muster and afford, start undoing all those things and replacing them with healthy choices. Bit by bit.

JanglingJack · 31/01/2024 23:45

Another old thread has popped up on this.

Note the lack of original posters lauding their weight loss and happiness.

MustardGreenAndPlum · 01/02/2024 06:34

Oh, and it’s black tea and coffee. Milk is banned, but you can have zero fat yoghurt, just not at breakfast.

MustardGreenAndPlum · 01/02/2024 06:34

And don’t mix your proteins, ie no surf n turf and no seeds on your yoghurt.

Heybarbie1028 · 01/02/2024 07:14

@MustardGreenAndPlum I need something like this. I am grossly overweight and need to have a detox.
