My house smells of farts

Sooo no matter how much I empty and clean the nappy bin, take the rubbish out and open the windows I feel there is a lingering pooey smell in my house Envy
Has anyone else had this or is my one year old exceptionally sulphurous? The plug in air fresheners give me a headache but the diffuser sticks don't touch the sides Confused

Then stop yanking his finger!

I'd get rid of the nappy bin and take nappy's out straight to the outside bin. Probably not helpful. Sorry.

Sofabum · 31/01/2024 21:49

The plastic of those nappy bins can take on the smell. I'd bin the bin and just take the nappies outside as pp says.

Also open windows for an hour a day.

BertieBotts · 31/01/2024 21:50

Agree, poo nappies need to go straight outside, there is no other way.

Itslegitimatesalvage · 31/01/2024 21:50

I used reusable nappies so they went into a nappy bucket with Milton and never had any smell lingering, other than on very hot days!
If we did use regular nappies then they went straight into the outside bin.

BertieBotts · 31/01/2024 21:51

With reusables you scrape the poo into the toilet though. With disposables it just sits there like a stinky egg 🤢

That’s true.

Nappy bins are a total waste of money. You need the put nappies in the outside bin as soon as you can.

wfcats · 31/01/2024 22:01

Oh no... So it sounds like the solution is to bin off the nappy bin. I suppose it is quite gross when I think about it, now that she eats proper food I just have a human poo sitting wrapped in plastic in my house for hours.

Logistically do you change the baby and then stick them in the cot while you go outside to the bin?

Even with disposables we used to tip very solid solids into the loo, to avoid this situation

schollsandaldevotee · 31/01/2024 22:02

Mine too, unfortunately its just me, I love my cruciferous vegetables and I have a lively microbiome! I open the windows and light a candle to burn the smell off.

wfcats · 31/01/2024 22:02

The phrase 'stinky egg' is going to haunt me tonight Grin

Poo in toilet, nappy in bag outside.

AdoraBell · 31/01/2024 22:08

Either put nappies in the bin or put bicarbonate soda or coffee in the nappy bin. Both neutralise smells.

Put coffee or bicarbonate soda in pots, yoghurt pots or similar, in rooms where there are smells. Put them out of sight if you prefer.

AM1994 · 31/01/2024 22:09

Lazy but I post them nappies with poop through the window in to the garden straight away and then when baby is napping etc go and put it in the outside bin just to save the what to do with baby bit when you are putting nappy out

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 31/01/2024 22:09

Yep nappy bins are the worst things ever, we had the tommee tommee twist and click one. Even when ours was empty it would still give off a lingering smell, or if I double nappy sacked it. Worst purchase ever.

And yes change baby then either take them with you to the outside bin or put them somewhere safe like playpen or wherever you put them when you go to the loo? Or else just put in a carrier bag outside the door and put in the outside bin when baby is napping if the bin is not immediately outside the house.

Qwerty21 · 31/01/2024 22:13

We have a nappy bin, I keep it in the loo and unless it's close to needing emptying we've not noticed it smelling 🤷‍♀️

hellsBells246 · 31/01/2024 22:18

Bin the nappy bin and those awful plug in things. They smell even worse then nappies.

Open all the windows for a couple of hours each day, and take nappies outside straight away.

MassiveOvaryaction · 31/01/2024 22:27

Is there one in a bag somewhere that didn't make it into the bin? 🤢

BertieBotts · 31/01/2024 22:30

Grin Sorry!

I live in a flat, so our outside is on the balcony, I finish changing the baby, well, toddler now, put him down to play somewhere and then quickly open the door and chuck it into the bin, close door again.

I have known people chuck them out of the window into the outside bin! If they land nearby, they just go and move them the next time they go outside (e.g. to the car).

BubblePerm · 31/01/2024 22:44

Joss sticks and open windows and doors as much as you can.
